    2026 RMKIF Spring Kendo Shinsa

  • Shinsa (promotion examination) for those wanting to achieve 6 kyu - 1 dan. Suggested training hours between ranks, 6 - 2kyu, is 30 hours, 30 - 45 after 2 kyu to apply for 1 kyu, and 45 - 60 hours after receiving 1 kyu for shodan.

    Dates/Times: Saturday, March 21, 2026, start time 10 AM.

    Check-in Times: 9:30 AM, March 21st

    Requirement: Must a current RMKIF or other AUSKF regional federation member.

    Shinsa fee (non-transferrable):

    Kyu rank (17  & under) Kyu rank (18 & over) 1 Dan
    $30 $40 $50

    Menjo fee: 

    Kyu rank (17 & under) Kyu Rank (18 & over) 1 Dan
    $20 $30 $50

    You will need the following items when you apply for the shinsa:

    • RMKIF/AUSKF membership number
    • A copy of your menjo if you have a current rank. If you received your last menjo from RMKIF, you do not need to provide a copy of the menjo.
    • A copy of your written test if you are testing for 1-kyu or 1-dan.
    • A copy of the cross-federation application if you are not a RMKIF member.

    Deadline to apply and provide shinsa fee is March 14, 2026.

    Mail shinsa fee (check or money order payable to Rocky Mountain Kendo Federation) to:

    Fees will be refunded if notice to withdrawal is sent to Monica Iwakabe, herrmoni2@aol.com, by March 14, 2026. If notice is not received by this date, if you are late for the check-in time and/or you miss the exam for any reason, the shinsa fee will not be refunded.

    NOTE: If the applicant is under the age of 18, the application must be completed by a guardian or parent.

    NOTE 2: Those who passed the exam must be prepared to pay the menjo fee immediately after the shinsa, March 21, 2026, via cash or check at the shinsa venue.

    I, intending to be legally bound, do hereby, for myself, heirs, executors, and administrators, waive, release, and forever discharge any claims for damages which I may incur, or which may hereafter accrue to me, against the All United States Kendo Federation, Rocky Mountain Kendo/Federation, Rocky Mountain Budokan, and its officers, instructors, members, and officials for all or any damages which may be sustained or suffered by me in connection with my participation in the shinsa, or arising out of transportation to and from the site of the shinsa held at Rocky Mountain Budokan.

    I confirm that I will not present myself at the shinsa if good heath and free of contagious symptons.

    Where the participant is a minor, I, the parent or guardian, do agree to the above waiver, and give permission to the exam officials to seek medical attention for my child in the event of sickness or injury.
