Spring 2026 Faculty Colloquium Why We Wander: The Psychology of Travel and Culture.

  • Why do new places and unfamiliar cultures feel so compelling, and what actually happens to us psychologically when we step into a different social world? This talk uses social and cross-cultural psychology to explore how travel reshapes the way we think, connect, and make meaning. Through research and real-world examples, we’ll look at how encountering different norms, traditions, and perspectives can challenge assumptions, build empathy, and offer powerful insights we can bring back into our classrooms.
