    ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN

    The North Manhattan Alumnae Chapter Scholarship was established to help African American women in need of financial assistance, pursue a degree-granting program directly from high school. This is a four-year scholarship of up to $2,000.00 per year.

    Eligibility is limited to students attending a public high school in Upper Manhattan with a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or better. Additionally, you must be a current high school senior expected to graduate in June 2026.

    A continuing scholarship will be based on maintenance of a minimum grade point average of 2.75.

    We suggest setting time aside to complete the application, but the application can be saved and continued at a later time.

    GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Official Transcript of grades 9-11

    2. A Statement of Purpose

    3. Two (2) letters of recommendation are required (Examples of recommenders: Principal, Counselors, Teachersor other individuals who have knowledge of your qualifications and character.)  Letters of recommendation can be uploaded to your application if you prefer. We will also send an email message to your recommender(s) to fill out the form.

    4. A Counselor Report form will be sent to your counselor to fill out after you submit your application. Please complete the application in enough time for the form to be submitted before the deadline. To expedite, you can also provide your counselor with the link.

    5. Proof of Income: Federal Income Tax Returns (forms 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) or parents’ Social Security statement must be submitted with your application. If your parents are unemployed or have not filed taxes for the previous year, please submit a letter of explanation.


    THE APPLICATION AND ALL MATERIALS MUST BE SUBMITTED BY April 14, 2026. ANY APPLICATION AND MATERIALS SUBMITTED AFTER THIS DATE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

  • Counselor Form

    A form to be completed by your school counselor is required for the application. Please enter your counselor's contact information below and upon submission of your application an email will be sent to your counselor requesting the required information. The Counselor Form must be received by April 14, 2026.
  • Letters of Recommendation

    For your application to be complete, two letters of recommendation are required. You may request letters of recommendation from your letter writers below by entering their name and email, an email request with link will be sent to them asking they upload their letter by the due date then a confirmation email will be sent to you once they have submitted the document. Alternatively, if you scroll to the bottom of the application, you can upload the two letters of recommendation under Supporting Documents section and they will be submitted with your application.
  • II. FINANCIAL INFORMATION (confidential)

  • Parent(s): Complete the financial information section based on your last year’s Federal Income Tax Returns (forms 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ) or parents’ Social Security statement. PLEASE SUBMIT A COPY OF LAST YEAR’S FEDERAL INCOME TAX RETURNS or PARENTS’ SOCIAL SECURITY STATEMENT. Failure to submit income documents will disqualify your application.  We recommend that the document submitted hide sensitive identifying information (e.g., Social Security Number).
     
    If parents are divorced or separated, answer the questions for the parent the applicant lived with the most in the past 12 months. If the applicant lived with both parents an equal number of days in the past 12 months, count the parent who provided the greatest amount of support, financial as well as material. Material support includes cars, clothing, medical and dental payments, etc. If that parent has remarried, the stepparent’s information must be included.
