  • Introduction

  • Thank you for your interest in being a Summer Term AmeriCorps Member at the Milwaukee Justice Center!  You are applying to join a group dedicated to addressing the unmet legal needs of Milwaukee County's low-income, self-represented litigants through court-based self-help desks and legal services.

    The Milwaukee Justice Center seeks to expand the accessibility to the courthouse through a additional information desks, a legal aid helpline, and courthouse navigation program to serve all who enter the building.

    Here are some things you should be aware of to complete the application:

    • We recommend you read the entire application and all application information on our website www.milwaukeejusticecenter.org/ before beginning the form.
    • If you have questions regarding the program, service site, selection timelines, orientation, etc. please e-mail Emma Sarazin at emma.sarazin@wicourts.gov
    • Submitting this application is no guarantee or promise of selection for Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps service.
    • Applying early is always a good idea because applications are reviewed as soon as they are received.

  • Screening Questions

    You will not qualify for service with the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps if you do not meet the criteria below.
  • Under AmeriCorps and Milwaukee Justice Center requirements, you will not be eligible for AmeriCorps service if you have been convicted of a violent felony or a felony charge for the manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of any controlled substance or illegal drug use; if you are listed on the National Sex Offender Public Registry; refuse to undergo a National Service Criminal History check, or make a false statement concerning your criminal history. Any convictions not mentioned above will automatically disqualify you from  Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps but will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Section 1:

    I have read the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps application and I certify that I am eligible to serve as an AmeriCorps Service Member for my selected term.  Eligibility requirements include:

    • I am 18 years of age by the start date of my term.
    • I am a U.S. Citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident.
    • I have achieved, or am working towards, my high school diploma or GED.
    • I have not previously served four AmeriCorps State or National terms.
  • Section 2:

    If I am selected as a finalist for the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps service position, I give the Milwaukee Justice Center permission to conduct criminal history background checks following AmeriCorps guidelines. I understand that following AmeriCorps policy, I will not be eligible for service membership if I am listed on the National Sex Offender Public Registry, if I have been previously convicted of a violent felony if I have been previously convicted of a felony involving the manufacture, distribution, dispensation, possession, or use of any controlled substance or illegal drug, or if I refuse to undergo National Service Criminal History check.  I understand that other prior criminal history does not necessarily prohibit me from serving with AmeriCorps, but that each case will be reviewed by the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps before my membership can be approved.

    Challenging a Not Cleared Recommendation for an Individual Applicant:

    If you feel you have been unjustly disqualified in your criminal history background checks, follow the procedures listed here.

    I permit the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps to use any Non-Identifiable information that I provide in this application for programming purposes, including promotional or communications purposes.

  • Section 4:

    I certify that the information provided in this application is accurate. I understand that the withholding of any information sought by this application, or the giving of false information on this application, will result in a refusal of selection, or, if discovered after I am selected, in disciplinary action up to and including termination. I hereby grant permission to any person, firm, or corporation to release to the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps or its representatives all information regarding my past service, work, employment, and background. I waive any claims I might have concerning the providing of such information. I further understand and agree that if I am offered and accept a service position with the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps, my service would be on an at-will basis. This means that either I or the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps may terminate the service relationships at any time. Finally, I understand and agree that this constitutes the entire agreement between me and the Milwaukee Justice Center | AmeriCorps concerning my service application.
