Defensive Pistol

Registration Requirements: Must be a GCGC member. This means signing up through our “Join the Club” form and meeting (in-person/video chat) with the Club Founders prior to class time.

Class Prerequisite: Basic Pistol or pass the Qualifier.

Class Requirements:

• State land requires a conservation license. A conservation license can be purchased on the FWP website for $8.00.
• Students are encouraged to provide their firearms. If they do not own one, the club may be able to provide a loaner for the class.

Range Class Requirements:

• Firearm
• Range bag
• Strong side or appendix holster, either inside or outside the was it band.
• 2 magazine pouches
• 3 magazines smaller capacity magazines are better but not required.
• Ban state mags are a plus.
• A sturdy belt, no less than 1.5" wide. This can be a padded battle belt type unit, but regular 1.75" cobra buckling belts or stiff leather is best.
• Gloves, if absolutely necessary, but bare hands are preferred.
• 300 rounds of ammunition
• Eye Protection - prescription glasses or sunglasses are okay
• Ear Protection
• Plenty of Water
• Lunch/Snack
• Camp or folding chair
• Recommended: Lead Removal Hand Wipes to use before eating

Class Location: Class location will be provided upon registration confirmation.

Class Fee: $50.00

• Class fees help cover classroom and course materials.

1. Acknowledgment of Inherent Risks and Assumption of Risk

I understand that participation in the Defensive Pistol course involves the handling and use of firearms, drawing from a holster, movement, target engagement, and live-fire training activities. These activities carry inherent risks, including but not limited to:

• Accidental discharge of a firearm
• Injury from firearms, spent casings, or debris
• Slips, trips, falls, or physical strain
• Hearing damage, eye injury, or other bodily harm
• Property damage

I understand that these risks cannot be eliminated even with proper instruction, supervision, safety equipment, and adherence to safety rules.

2. Voluntary Participation

I am voluntarily choosing to participate in this course and understand the nature of the activities involved. I acknowledge that I am responsible for determining whether I am physically and mentally fit to safely participate.

3. Assumption of Risk

I knowingly and freely assume all risks, known and unknown, associated with participation in the Defensive Pistol class, even if arising from the negligence of Gallatin Community Gun Club, its instructors, volunteers, officers, board members, range staff, or affiliates, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

4. Release of Liability

I hereby release, waive, and discharge Gallatin Community Gun Club (GCGC), its directors, officers, instructors, volunteers, agents, event partners, and property owners from any and all claims, demands, actions, or causes of action arising out of or related to any injury, disability, death, or property damage that may occur as a result of my participation in this course, including those caused by ordinary negligence, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

5. Agreement to Follow Safety Rules

I agree to follow all firearm safety rules, range commands, instructor directions, and posted policies at all times. I understand that failure to follow safety rules may result in my immediate removal from the class without refund.

6. Equipment Responsibility

I acknowledge that I am responsible for ensuring that my firearm, holster, ammunition, eye protection, and ear protection are safe and appropriate for use in this course. I agree to notify instructors of any equipment concerns.

7. Medical Consent & Emergency Care

I authorize Gallatin Community Gun Club and its representatives to seek emergency medical treatment for me if needed. I understand that I am responsible for any medical costs incurred as a result of participation.

8. Indemnification

I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Gallatin Community Gun Club and its representatives from any claims brought by or on behalf of myself or any third party arising from my participation in this course.

9. Legal Jurisdiction

This Agreement shall be governed by the laws of the State of Montana.

I grant permission to Gallatin Community Gun Club (GCGC) to photograph or record me during this class for educational, promotional, or informational purposes.

I understand that these images or recordings may be used in print, on the GCGC website, social media, marketing materials, or other communications without compensation.

I acknowledge that my participation is voluntary and that I may request not to be photographed or recorded by notifying instructors or staff prior to or during the event.

I release Gallatin Community Gun Club, its officers, instructors, volunteers, and affiliates from any claims related to the use of these images or recordings.
