The Southside Colorguard and Crimsonette Danceline portray beauty, class, elegance, and excellence in everything they do! They are highly visible representatives of our program and school. Only positive, hardworking, and dedicated young ladies should consider auditioning.

Interest Meeting
*There will be a mandatory interest meeting for all ladies auditioning on Friday, March 20, 2026, in the SHS Band Room. At least one legal guardian must also attend.
Clinic
Clinics are hosted the week of the audition by the auxiliary instructors. These clinics are necessary to learn the skills and routines that will be evaluated at auditions.
All clinics will be held at the SHS Band Room from 3:15 to 5:00 pm.

Auditions
Auditions will begin as soon as possible after school, once our judges arrive (approx. 4:00 pm). A school administrator and a band director will be present at all times in the band room during auditions. Results will be posted on a sign at the front of the school and later online. Auditions are closed to the public.
Crimsonette Audition: Friday, March 27
Colorguard Audition: Monday, April 13
Eligibility
Any female, grade 9-12 (upcoming school year) who is registered as a year-round instrumental member of the Southside Band, and who has taken at least two years of band at RMS, is eligible to audition for the auxiliary sections. Students without two years of middle school band may join the high school band and be considered eligible after participating in band for one year.
*Applicants must be in good standing with their school faculty and be up to date on all band fees from the 2025-2026 school year.
Costs
There is a nonrefundable, one-time audition fee of $30, which must be paid online to The PRIDE Music Association Booster Club. If selected to become an auxiliary member, the yearly membership fee is $100. Auxiliary members can expect additional expenses for uniforms (typically $180) and equipment.
***Please note that while fundraising monies can be used for membership fees, Alabama State law prevents using fundraising credit for anything that the student keeps (e.g., auxiliary uniforms, tee shirts, etc.)
Audition Process
Students’ To Do:
- Register and pay ($30 on-time, non-refundable) online for auditions by the first day of clinic.
- Attend every day of the clinic
- Participate in the audition process.
The Actual Audition
- Auditions will begin as soon as possible after school, once our judges arrive (approx. 4:00 pm).
- Candidates will be instructed on what to wear at auditions at the clinic. Candidates will be given a number at auditions. No names will be called out during auditions.
- Candidates may audition in both a large, ensemble group and a smaller group. Candidates may be asked to perform a task individually.
- A school administrator and a band director will be present at all times during auditions.
- A panel of outside judges will evaluate and score candidates.
- The final decision rests with the Director of Bands.
- Results will be posted on a sign at the front of the school and later online.
- Auditions are closed to the public.
- A sample scoring rubric will be reviewed at the mandatory interest meeting.
Membership in the Southside Band is open to any dedicated and hardworking student. There is always a place for those who give their best! Our goal is to have as many auxiliary members as the judges deem ready to contribute positively to these groups.
Results
- Auditions are designed to be as fair as possible.
- Any student or parent has the right to review their own scores after the audition.
- No student or parent will be allowed to review another student’s scores.
