Baxter Grants
Baxter Grants provide partial travel reimbursement (up to $400) to graduate student members of the American Studies Association who will travel to the upcoming conference in order to participate in a session in the annual meeting program. The ASA will also reimburse Baxter Grant recipients for their conference registration fee (up to $100).
Please note that Baxter Travel Grant awards are paid after the conference.
ELIGIBILITY
Baxter Travel Grants are only for current ASA graduate student members enrolled in a degree-granting program. Graduate students who received a Baxter grant from the ASA in 2025 are ineligible to apply in 2026. For contingent faculty, community-based scholars, artists, individuals affiliated with non-academic community groups, unemployed or underemployed scholars, and undergraduate students seeking financial support, please apply for an ASA Solidarity Grant.
The ASA prioritizes helping those who have significant financial need, limited or no support from their institutions or other sources, and who incur substantial costs for travel to and from the convention. We endeavor to support as many Baxter Travel Grant applicants as possible; depending on the number of applicants and the funds available in a given year, we generally are not able to support all who apply and we prioritize those applicants whose household income and institutional resources make conference attendance most challenging.
