Legal Counsellor – SAHAS Help Desk
The Legal Counsellor – SAHAS Help Desk will play a crucial role in providing legal guidance, procedural assistance, advisory support and rights-based counselling to individuals and organisations on matters related to workplace sexual harassment under the POSH Act.
The primary objective of this role is to ensure that complainants are informed, supported and empowered, and that organisations are guided towards lawful, timely and sensitive handling of complaints in compliance with statutory requirements.
Detailed Job Responsibilities and Expectations are as given below:
• Legal Advisory and Orientation
Inform and orient complainants about their legal rights under the POSH Act and relevant service rules.
Provide guidance on available remedies, procedural steps and statutory timelines.
Assist organisations in understanding compliance obligations under the POSH framework.
• Procedural Guidance
Guide complainants on filing complaints before Internal Committees or Local Committees.
Provide advisory inputs on documentation, representation and procedural safeguards.
Support Internal Committees in interpreting legal provisions and ensuring due process.
• Emotional and Rights-Based Support
Provide a safe, respectful and empathetic environment for individuals seeking assistance.
Recognise the sensitivity of workplace harassment complaints and ensure dignity-centred engagement.
Facilitate informed decision-making without coercion or bias.
• Capacity Building and Compliance Support
Assist in developing awareness materials and standard guidance notes for organisations.
Support training and orientation programmes for Internal Committees and Local Committees.
Promote best practices for institutional compliance and safe workplace mechanisms.
• Case Coordination and Liaison
Act as a facilitation point between complainants, Internal Committees, Local Committees and relevant authorities.
Coordinate with District Administration, DLSA and other statutory bodies where required.
Escalate sensitive or systemic issues to the SAHAS Module Officer and Women Safety Wing.
• Documentation and Reporting
Maintain accurate and confidential records of consultations and advisory support provided.
Assist in preparing analytical reports, compliance summaries and policy briefs.
Contribute to research and knowledge documentation on workplace safety trends.
• Confidentiality and Ethical Standards
Ensure strict confidentiality and privacy in all interactions.
Adhere to ethical and professional standards in handling sensitive matters.
• Advocacy and Institutional Strengthening
Promote accountability, transparency and fairness in workplace complaint mechanisms.
Contribute to strengthening the institutional ecosystem for safer workplaces.
