About the Mahogany Tennis Association
Mahogany Tennis Association — Celebrating 40 Years of Tennis, Culture, and Community
The Mahogany Tennis Association (MTA) is a network of historically African-American tennis clubs from cities across North Carolina that come together to celebrate community, culture, and a shared love for the game of tennis. Established in 1985, the association brings together players of all backgrounds and skill levels—from beginners to seasoned competitors—to compete, fellowship, and grow the sport through junior and adult tennis programs.
Participating clubs include:
• Magic Express Tennis Club — Durham, North Carolina
• Ebony Racquet Club — Raleigh, North Carolina
• Greenville Tennis Association — Greenville, North Carolina
• Wizards Tennis Association — Fayetteville, North Carolina
• Gold City Aces — Goldsboro, North Carolina
• Seagulls Tennis Club — Wilmington, North Carolina
Each year, these clubs gather for the Mahogany Tennis Classic, an annual tournament held during Memorial Day weekend that rotates between participating club locations. The tournament features singles, doubles, mixed doubles, and youth matches, bringing together players from across the state for a weekend of spirited competition, fellowship, and celebration of the Mahogany tennis legacy.
The Mahogany Classic is more than just a tournament—it is a time for players, families, and supporters to reconnect, welcome new members into the community, and celebrate the rich history and culture of Mahogany tennis.
The 2026 Mahogany Tennis Classic is proudly hosted by the Greenville Tennis Association in Greenville, North Carolina.
We welcome all tennis enthusiasts—including players, families, friends, and community supporters—to come out, enjoy great tennis, learn more about the Mahogany legacy, and experience the fellowship that has defined the Mahogany Tennis Association for four decades.
