- Question 3. Imagine you are a graduate student in the humanities or social sciences at a large, affluent university. Frustrated by low pay, inadequate benefits, and departmental favoritism in teaching assistant assignments, you decide to organize your colleagues into forming a union. While many graduate students in your division are interested, you struggle to gain support from science students. The main issue is that they don’t reply to your emails and rarely attend meetings. The second problem is that they work directly under their supervisor in a lab, which they depend on for funding, and they don’t do much teaching, so their material interests are a bit different from yours. Please write a short essay saying how you would try to get in touch with them, and what you would want to talk about if you did manage to speak with them. (500-word limit)
