We are requesting that Hancock County implement a one year moratorium on new data center development.
This temporary pause will give Hancock County officials and our community the necessary time to establish safeguards that protect:
- Public health and safety
- Water resources and the local environment
- Property values and quality of life
- Responsible use of taxpayer money
A moratorium does not permanently prohibit data centers. It simply allows Hancock County to carefully evaluate potential impacts, develop appropriate regulations, and ensure proper oversight before approving any new projects.
Our goal is to ensure that any future data center development in Hancock County benefits the community while minimizing risks to our residents and local resources.
We respectfully urge the Hancock County Commissioners and Area Planning Commission to approve a one year moratorium to provide the time needed to put these protections in place.
