2026-2027 Production Opportunities Application
Hello! Thanks for your interest in a production staff opportunity for the 2026-2027 Academic Year! Below you will find production assignments and leadership roles that need to be filled for the year. This includes positions for Mainstage productions, Second Stage Laboratory Projects, and the Mainstage Dance Concert. Please complete the following application prioritizing the opportunities you want to be considered for.

Our production positions are broken down into four main areas: Artistic, Design, Management, and Staff. Below you will find positions in all areas organized by productions/projects. Job descriptions for these positions can be found in the THTR Sakai Resources.

All of these assignments are for course credit and depending on the assignment, some credit is variable.

This application will be live until all positions are filled.

Positions will be filled on a first-come-first-served rolling basis.

The positions listed on this application are still open to be applied for.

Design assignments are enrolled in THTR 324D: Applied Design, which meets Fridays from 11:30-12:45pm

Stage Management assignments are enrolled in THTR 324M: Applied Management, which meets Fridays from 9:20am-11:15am

Production Staff assignments are usually enrolled in a Theatre Practicum section, either THTR 321R: Running Crew (required tech and performance dates) or THTR 321P: Production Staff (scheduled independently).

The first round of application reviews will begin on April 8, 2026. To be considered in the first round, please submit your application before this date. The form will remain open afterward, but later submissions will not be included in the first round of review.

FALL 26 Second Stages

For Praise of Love

Project Lead: Danny Kaatz

Project Description: Inspired by Plato’s Symposium, For Praise of Love is a collaborative writing-room project in which a group of student playwrights explore love, politics, and philosophy through a series of newly created speeches and scenes. Drawing on contemporary perspectives while reimagining classical forms, the ensemble will craft a work that asks what it means to search for connection in an uncertain world.

What Would Have to Happen

Project Lead: Saniah Johnson

Project Description: Set in a small Seattle apartment, What Would Have To Happen? explores the quiet, complicated rhythms of a relationship shaped by love, routine, and intrusive thoughts. Through an intimate staged reading workshop, this new one-act play examines how mental health and emotional vulnerability shape the ways people connect with one another.

That's Absurd!

Project Lead: Corin Friese

Project Description: Inspired by the theatrical tradition of Samuel Beckett and the Theatre of the Absurd, That’s Absurd! is a collaborative writing and devising workshop exploring life’s strange, humorous, and hopeful moments. A team of student playwrights and designers will create a series of short original pieces reflecting on the beauty and absurdity of human existence.

The Mountain

Project Lead: Carlos Carmona

Project Description: The Mountain tells the story of a couple giving their relationship one final chance in a remote Appalachian setting. Through a staged reading workshop, the project explores themes of nostalgia, class, mental health, and the difficult truth that love alone may not always sustain a relationship.

The Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors

Project Lead: Elizaveta Azrapinka

Project Description: Based on the Soviet fairy tale by Vitaly Gubarev, The Kingdom of Crooked Mirrors follows a young girl who enters a fantastical world behind a mirror and encounters a reflection of her own flaws. Through translation and ensemble exploration, this staged reading examines identity, moral choice, and the many versions of ourselves we might become.

THE RUINS: exerpts from Toby Fox's UNDERTALE

Project Lead: Jay Van Beest

Project Description: This devised theatre project brings scenes from Toby Fox’s beloved video game UNDERTALE to the stage through collaborative storytelling and movement. Exploring the possibilities of interactive theatre, the project experiments with audience choice and multiple narrative outcomes inspired by the game’s “choose your own adventure” structure.
