  • Kia ora team, and thanks again for being part of Waihi Beach Surf Boat Spectacular!

This year was the first time we trialled the combined 3-day format of ERCs + North Island Champs + Champion of Champions (CoC), and we’d really value your feedback to help us understand how the boatie community feels about continuing with a combined event. We’re keen to hear what worked well, what didn’t, and any suggestions for improvements or changes.

Please take a few minutes to complete this survey – your feedback will help shape what we do next.

Thanks in advance – we genuinely appreciate your time.

  • Which days did you attend?
  • Did you enjoy yourself at the Surf Boat Spectaculor?*
  • How did you feel about the 3-day format with ERCs incorporated?*
  • Do you want ERCs to remain part of the NISB weekend going forward?*
  • Do you see any benefits from including ERCs in the NISB weekend?
  • If you see benefits from including ERCs in the NISB weekend, please tick all that apply. (Tick all that apply.)
  • Do you have an “Other” benefit to add (not covered above)?
  • Waitangi Day is always 6 February. Over the next 10 years (2027–2036), the Waitangi Day public holiday falls on a Friday or a Monday in 6 out of 10 years (including years where it falls on a weekend and is “Monday-ised”):

    2027 – Monday (observed)
    2028 – Monday (observed)
    2032 – Friday
    2033 – Monday (observed)
    2034 – Monday
    2035 – Friday
In the remaining years, Waitangi Day falls mid-week (Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday). Those years are:

    2029 – Tuesday
    2030 – Wednesday
    2031 – Thursday
    2036 – Wednesday

  • In years when Waitangi Day falls on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (so attending a 3-day event may require time off work / school), how likely are you to support and attend?*
  • Do you see any challenges from including ERCs in the NISB weekend?
  • Please indicate the challenges from including ERCs in the NISB weekend. Tick all that apply.
  • Do you have an “Other” challenge/concern to add (not covered above)?
  • If the programme was adjusted so there was one relay only across the full 3-day weekend (instead of a relay on both the ERC day and the North Islands day), how would that affect how you feel about a combined 3-day event?*
  • Looking ahead to 2027, the Trans Tasman Surf Boat Series returns to Waihī Beach. The likely schedule is: North Islands (Saturday), ERCs (Sunday), CoC (Monday – Waitangi Day observed). Based on this, see question below:

  • If 2027 runs as a 3-day combined event with CoC on Monday, how would that influence your decision to enter?*
  • If we deliver another combined 3-day Waihi Beach Surf Boat Spectacular and reduce the number of rounds on each day (to ease time pressures across the weekend), would you support this approach?*
  • Entry fee context (please read):
This year the entry fee was $100 per competitor (GST included). Delivering a 3-day event brings significant costs, and some costs were higher than we’d expected – including event tees, food for officials and event volunteers, security, and other event delivery costs (e.g., toilets, rubbish and cleaning). We’re keen to understand what competitors consider fair and sustainable going forward.

  • If we deliver a combined 3-day event again, what entry fee per competitor would you still consider acceptable? (GST included)*
  • If the entry fee increased, which option would you prefer?*
  • What matters most to you in the entry fee? (Tick all that apply)*
  • Should all age-groups have the option to enter a mixed crew and be eligible for medals?*
  • Scheduling a half hour lunch break each day was positive*
  • Should be Empty:
