2026 Tahoe Rim Ride Rules and Notes – Entry Period Opens April 8, 2026
The 2026 Tahoe Rim Ride (50-mile ride) will be held on July 25, 2026.
Just like in prior years, an entry for the Tahoe Rim Ride is for a rig spot. Spots are limited to a total of 18 rig parking spaces. Each spot requires paid entry for a minimum of two riders (of your choice). If you have a 3+ horse rig, you may bring additional rider(s) for an additional ride entry in the same rig.
Entry to the ride is now first come, first served. Entries will be allocated to eligible horse/rider teams in the order entry forms are received via online entry. No hand deliveries will be accepted. This year please do not send in money. Once we determine the riders/rigs, we will notify each person, and they will have 1 week to either PayPal, Zelle, or mail a check for the entire rig entry fee. If we do not receive payment within 1 week the rig spot will be awarded to the next person on the Tahoe Rim Ride waitlist. Ride entry forms will be made available on April 8, 2026, on the AERC.org website, the NASTR.org website, the Nevada All-State Trail Riders Facebook page and the NASTR Tahoe Rim Ride Facebook page.
Due to our limited space, we depend on ridesharing to be able to continue to offer this ride. The minimum fee for a Rig Spot is $440.00 ($220.00 each for two adult entries). If you do not have (or do not want) an additional rider in your rig, you may pay the minimum entry fee ($440 for 2 riders) and not bring a second rider with you.
If your Total Rig Length exceeds 45’ you must get approval from management for that rig. If you are bringing 3 or more riders, length exceptions can be made but must be approved by management prior to your arrival. There will be an additional charge of $75 for all rigs longer than 45’ unless you bring 3 or more horses in your trailer.
All AERC Rules and Regulations apply. All riders must be pre-registered; we do not have registration at the ride.
CAMP:
Traffic is one-way on Friday into camp. No drive-throughs or drop-offs are allowed in camp. Vehicles cannot come and go due to the size of and access to ride camp. The road in and out of camp is a single lane dirt road with a drop off on one side.
Space is very limited, so no additional vehicles are allowed at ride camp, only registered rigs and vehicles pre-authorized by management (Vets, Volunteers, etc.)
If you can travel in a smaller rig or bring along an additional rider(s), it would be greatly appreciated.
All horses must be tied to rigs (Hi-ties attached to rigs are ok). CORRALS AND/OR HOT WIRE PENS ARE NOT PERMITTED.
All riders must arrive and check in on Friday 7/24/26 between 12:00pm and 6:00pm. There will be no vetting in the morning of the ride.
Parking is assigned and you will be guided to a parking space when you arrive at camp and your rig has been measured. Please stop at the STOP SIGN.
Please do not arrive at basecamp prior to 12:00 noon Friday 7/24/26 unless you have made specific arrangements with management.
Parking is very tight and there are no "streetlights." Everyone must be settled in at ride camp before 6:00pm on Friday night.
There can be NO OPEN FIRES at basecamp.
All riders are asked to pack out what they bring in and clean up their area in the campground. Trash bags will be provided.
Please plan to take your trash/manure/hay out with you. DO NOT SPREAD OR LEAVE MANURE BEHIND. Please bring a yard rake to clean up your camp space as we can leave no hay or manure in camp! Failure to leave your space cleaner than you found it will result in disqualification, and you will not be invited back.
COURSE AND NEW RULES:
Due to the difficulty of this ride, we require that the horse and rider have a minimum of 250 endurance miles. These miles do not have to be together. This is a difficult ride. It is a "True" 50-Mile ride with dramatic elevation changes. This is not a fast course, and you must ride responsibly to complete. Please ride your horse within its limits. The elevation at Tahoe Rim Ride Base Camp is 7,225'. Elevation at the top of first peak: 8,980'. Elevation at second peak: 8,980'. Elevation at third peak: 8,660'. The total elevation gain / loss (Over 50 miles) for the Tahoe Rim Ride is +9,500' / -9,500' for 19,000' of elevation change!
There WILL be public access to the course during the ride. You will encounter hikers, bicycles (on some of the trail), dogs, and other riders along the way. Please slow down to a walk and approach each encounter in a safe and respectful manner.
There are a few technical areas along the trail with steps, steep side slopes, and three wooden bridges (No rails). This is not a "fast" course. Please travel at a safe speed.
Any pulls at the away camp must be hauled out through rugged, narrow, steep access roads and the round trip for the rescue trailer is approximately 3 hours.
VETTING & VET CHECKS:
There will be no vetting in on the morning of the ride.
A host of volunteers will be supporting you at the vet checks. Both vet checks are away from camp at the same location. Please bring a crew bag to be taken to the away vet check. Bags will be returned to camp after the away vet check has been closed.
There will be refreshments for riders (Sandwiches, Drinks and Goodies) and horses (Hay and Carrots) at the away camp (It is amazing!), but if you require anything special, please pack it in your crew bag.
CREW/VOLUNTEERS:
*There will not be crew access to the course unless you have made prior arrangements with ride management to have your crew member volunteer at the away check and your crew must also help crew all riders and assist management as assigned through the checks to be included in the caravan.
Access to the vet check is through locked gates and requires a key and permit. Volunteers will meet management and caravan (In a limited number of assigned vehicles) to the away check. If you have crew that would like to volunteer at the Vet check, please let management know ASAP.
THURSDAY ARRIVAL:
Each year we have one of our riders/rigs come in early (Thursday at noon) to provide a presence in the camp so that we can leave equipment (Water, toilets, etc.) in camp overnight.
If you are interested, please contact management as soon as possible. This is only available to one Rig.
Please help us keep this ride going and leave a positive impression on the people you encounter on the trail and please LEAVE NO TRACE. Thank you for your participation in this ride, and we look forward to seeing you!
FEE & CANCELLATION POLICY:
New Policy: You do not pay now. We will inform riders who get into the ride by the end of April or when all spots are assigned, whichever comes first. You must pay by PayPal, Zelle, or check within 1 week or your rig spot will be awarded to the next person on the Tahoe Rim Ride waitlist.
Cancellations received no later than June 24, 2026, will receive a full refund minus PayPal fees. Any cancellations after June 24, 2026, will be subject to a $40.00 administration fee.
