  • Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a private, international public service sorority comprised of more than 200,000 predominately African-American, college-educated women. Since its founding in 1913 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has established itself as an organization that seriously considers the issues impacting the Black community and boldly confronts the challenges of African Americans and, hence, all Americans.

    For over fifty-eight (58) years, the Laurel Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has served the Laurel and Jones County area. The Laurel Alumnae Chapter is committed to serving our local community through the Sorority’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrust: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement.

    The scholarship program of the Laurel Alumnae Chapter – Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is committed to offering financial support through scholarships to deserving students in the local area who aim to pursue educational goals beyond high school. In providing this assistance, the desired outcome is that students fulfill professional objectives and lead successful and independent lives.

    Eligibility requirements: High school seniors who currently reside in Laurel/Jones County area, has satisfied all high school graduation requirements, and plan to enroll in a junior college or university for the 2026 summer/fall semester.

    Application along with additional required documents (i.e., photo and official transcripts) must be submitted by 11:59PM CST on MONDAY, APRIL 13, 2026.

    Please note that your application IS NOT considered complete and will be denied unless we receive all application materials

    Required Document Checklist:

    • Completed application with an electronic or written signature.
    • Personal Statement (250-500 words)
    • Three Letters of Recommendation written by individuals not related to you.
      • Counselor (containing applicant’s GPA and ACT scores with signature)
      • Teacher or administrator
      • Community leader, church member employer, etc.
    • Official transcript signed by counselor
    • 3x5 photo (please, no selfies)
    • Resume
