  • Thank you for your interest in applying for the Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Program Please keep in mind that this is a training program, we are not an employer.

    If you are unable to submit an online application, please contact the apprenticeship office at (808)232-2001.

    Applications are not based on a first come, first served basis. DO NOT SUBMIT AN APPLICATION IF YOU DO NOT HAVE YOUR DOCUMENTS READY TO SUBMIT. You must submit a copy of your Hawaii Driver's license and your high school transcripts. Applications submited without the correct documents will automatically be disqualified.

    After submitting your application, please check your email to see if you've received a confirmation of your submittal before resubmittting another application, to avoid duplicate applications. If you receive the email confirmation, we have received your application on our end.

  • Minimum Requirements

    Below are the minimum requirements that an applicant must meet in order to apply:
    1. Shall be at least eighteen (18) years of age. (Applicants who will be 18 years old by June 30, 2026 may apply.)
    2. Shall be a high school graduate or has successfuly passed the G.E.D. or C-Base test and provide a transcript of school grades or test scores for attachment to the application.
    3. Shall be physcially able to perform the duties of the trade.
    4. Shall pass a basic industry or general knowledge test and a hands on or simulation test.
    5. Must have a valid Hawaii Driver's License showing current address as the island for training hereunder, and maintain their current license throughout the program.
    6. Must have reliable transportation to get to and from work site and classroom instruction.

  • Please submit your application when you have all your documents correct and ready to submit. Applications are not on a first come, first served basis. You have until 5 PM HST on March 31, 2026 to submit your application.

    Should you attempt to submit your application without your correct documents, your file will be disqualified.

  • Branch of Training

    You may only apply to be placed on ONE branch of training.

  • It is a mandatory requirement that you possess a valid Hawaii Driver's License with an address for the island that you are applying for.

  • File Upload

    To avoid delays with your application, ensure that your documents are clear and legible. DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION WITHOUT YOUR REQUIRED DOCUMENTS. DOCUMENTS MUST BE SCANS OF THE ORIGINAL DOCUMENT. Applicants must ensure that no part or pages of the document are missing. Where a document has stamps, seals, or text on both sides then both sides must be scanned. If you submit a blank document, your application will be disqualified.

  • Unreadable documents or documents that we are unable to open will be required to be re-submitted which may result in a delay in the application being assessed.

    If you are taking a photo of your documents instead of scanning them, ensure the following:

    • Document is flat and on a plain background.
    • Photo must be clear and legible.
    • Information in the photo must not be obstructed (for example, by your fingers or a shadow).
    • If your document is 2 or more pages, each page must be photographed separately. DO NOT photograph 2 pages next to each other.

     

    DO NOT SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION WITHOUT A COMPLETE TRANSCRIPT. IT SHOULD INCLUDE YOUR GRADUATION DATE. WE DO NOT ACCEPT DIPLOMAS OR CERTIFICATES. Unofficial transcripts are accepted.

  • DEADLINE. Your application and required documents will only be accepted from March 2, 2026 @ 8 AM HST to March 31, 2026 @ 5 PM HST.

    NOTE: Please submit your application once. Do not submit multiple applications. If you have questions, you may email us at intake@hijac.org.

    INTERVIEW. You will be scheduled for an interview after all applications have been reviewed.

    APPLICATION WAITLIST. The application wait list that you are applying for will be for Kauai and will be effective upon completion of the application process.

    CONTACT INFORMATION. You must notify the apprenticeship office of any change of address, phone number, or email. If we are unable to contact you, your file will be disqualified and/or we will move on to the next applicant.
