    Art Call - Spring Gift Shop

    NAA is seeking small artworks and artisan inventory for our gift shop from April 1st to May 30th. Works don't need to meet any seasonal theme - our focus is to provide a selection of hand-crafted artist original pieces, priced at under $200, and are easy take-away items to entice first-time art buyers!
  • Selection Process

    Work for the gift shop will be lightly curated to enable a varied and diverse group of participating artists and media, while also focusing on the goals of the gift shop: enticing new NAA visitors to make first-time purchases, associating NAA with small gift-giving artworks. Items should be no more than $200 each.

    Eligibility

    This call for art is open to Newburyport Art artist members -- all ages and levels! Membership must remain in good standing through the end of the Gift Shop May 30th

    • Accepted Media: All media welcome
    • Hand-rendered greeting cards
    • 2D dimensions no larger than 12 inches in any direction
    • 3D dimensions no larger than 12 inches in any direction, weighing 5 pounds or less
    • All work must be for sale
    • Artworks should be priced under $200

    Important Dates

    • Submission deadline: Wednesday, March 25th by (11:59pm)
    • Notification/Confirmation of Selection: Thursday, March 26th by (11:59pm)
    • Art Drop-off: Saturday, March 28th (5pm-7pm) and Sunday, March 29th (11-5pm)
    • Gift Shop dates: Wednesday, April 1st - Saturday, May 30th
    • Pickup of unsold works: Saturday, May 30th (5pm-7pm) and Sunday, May 31 (11-5pm)

    * If you cannot make the drop off times, we are happy to arrange for you to drop off early, we cannot accept late drop offs* -- please call us at 978-465-8769 or email artcall@newburyportart.org to arrange alternate drop off time

    Entry Fees: Fixed $20 for up to three works (you may have up to 4 variations within each work); no Artist Plus discount or free entry for gift shop calls

    • A work can have variations (different styles/colors/sizes - within reason), and it will count as only one work during the submission process.
    • If you are submitting variations, please tell us how many you will bring
    • PLEASE NO VARIATIONS IN PRICE per one "work" -- more about variations below
    • The fee is fixed at $20 for up to three works.
    • Artist Plus members do not receive any free entries to gift shop calls (only exhibitions).
    • It is possible that some accepted variations (if variations are submitted) might not be displayed all at once if space is limited. We will try out best to rotate and put additional variations out as work sells.

    A Note about variations

    • In 2026 we hope to create clearer guidelines for submitting variations
    • What counts as a variation? Items that are around the same size, overall design and price is a good example of a variation. This could be 4 butter dishes that are different colors, or four small bird paintings that are the same size and price with different birds depicted.
    • What does not count a variation? If your pieces are different prices, that is not a variation. An example could be 3 cat photos, all different prices. Those should be submitted as individual entries.

    Submission Guidelines

    • Submissions are made using this online form. The deadline is March 25th (by 11:59pm)
    • Artists must upload at least one digital image per work. If submitting work that has variations, please provide multiple images (or one image with all the variations)
    • No artwork substitution is allowed (other than variations, such as color, size). 
    • Submission of your entry constitutes your agreement with the Code of Conduct
    • Submission of your entry acknowledges the right of the NAA to reproduce artwork for marketing purposes.
    • The NAA reserves the right to decline any submission, or to remove a selected work, for any reason.

    Sales and Insurance

    • All work must be for sale, unless there is an agreement made with the Executive Director.
    • The NAA retains a commission of 25% for works sold. Artist gets 75%
    • If a work sells, the artist will be notified via email, and the artist will be asked to confirm their mailing address
    • Newburyport Art will make every effort to issue commission checks to artists for any show sales within 30 days after the close of the exhibition.
    • Works will be handled with all possible care. The NAA provides insurance up to 75% of the value declared by the artist from the day of receipt of the artwork to the final published pick-up date.
    • The NAA is not responsible for any work not picked up by the end of the designated pick-up window of time.
    • A late fee of $20 may be charged at the discretion of the NAA for any work left beyond the pickup period unless prior arrangements are made with the office.
  • Directions and a few notes before you begin:

    • There is a "Save" button that will save your progress. You may then be prompted by JotForm to follow a number of steps for proper saving.
    • Please label all images with your name and title of work, such as: FirstNameLastName_Artwork Title.jpg
