  • APPLICATION DEADLINE: Friday, April 3, 2026

    The Center for Journalism & Democracy is providing scholarship awards to journalism majors at historically Black colleges and universities to offset the cost of attending the Investigative Reporters & Editors (IRE) conference, taking place June 17 - 20, 2026 in National Harbor, MD, and the National Association of Black Journalists Convention & Career Fair, being held August 12 - 15, 2026 in Atlanta, GA.

    The award includes: 

    Conference registration
    Membership in conference organization
    Airfare and lodging (you will be assigned a roommate)
    Stipend for meals/ground transportation during the conference 


    Applicants can indicate interest in both conferences, but will only receive one award for one of the conferences. 

    Please complete the application form below which includes a required statement of interest (100-250 words). Reviewing the expected conference sessions may help with your statement of interest. Statements should be written without AI assistance.
