Meta lies. Break the deals!
Meta is building a data center in El Paso that is allowed to use more water than all of EPISD, and use more energy than every home in El Paso combined. To power this data center they are planning to build a 500 million dollar gas plant that would emit more pollution than every car, home, business, and existing gas plant combined. Meta is not only being allowed to do this, they are receiving 120 million in tax incentives from the City of El Paso. This is an insult to all El Pasoans. Our city should not subsidize the richest people in the world to extract our resources while they provide less jobs than a single high school. We are asking the city council to....1. Void the existing 380 agreement with META ensuring billion dollar companies pay their taxes. 2. Pass legislation to prohibit future generative data centers in El Paso 3. Urge the Public Service Board to void their contract with META. Sign the comment form below to make your voice known.

Dear City Council, Mayor and PSB Chair, I am writing to you to express my deep concern with META’s data center project. The amount of water and energy that they would take from our region is completely irresponsible. When the deal with META was negotiated, it was promoted that this project would utilize renewable energy and at no point was META’s gas plant mentioned. This gas plant that META is now claiming to require is estimated to release more toxins into our air than every vehicle, person, business and existing gas plant in El Paso combined. Lying and breaking promises is part of the business practices of META and tech companies like it. That is why municipalities all across the country are blocking these data center projects and renegotiating existing contracts. The richest companies in the world do not deserve tax breaks that force everyday El Pasoans to subsidize their business. With the increase of utility bills straining so many of our community members, continuing to allow a company that will provide less than one hundred permanent jobs to extract this much from our community is disrespectful to El Pasoans who work, live and raise their families here. We are asking you to... 1. Void the existing 380 agreement with META ensuring billion dollar companies pay their taxes. 2. Pass legislation to prohibit future generative data centers in El Paso 3. Urge the Public Service Board to void their contract with META.
