The Sponsor MUST be Orthodox Christian(s) in good standing with his/her parish and should be of the same gender as the candidate. If the Sponsor is a member of another Orthodox parish, their parish Priest must send a letter in Good Standing, at least 10 days before the Baptism, stating that the Sponsor is a member in good standing.

The final step in Christian Initiation is the partaking of the Holy Eucharistic Mysteries (Communion). In the instance of Baptism or Chrismation, it is desirable that the newly illumined receive Communion as soon as possible from the chalice, during the next Divine Liturgy. The Sponsor should be prepared to receive the Eucharist at the time together with the newly baptized person. It is tradition that the newly initiated person receives Holy Communion for three consecutive Sundays, and after that as frequently as possible.

It is customary to give a donation for use of the church for Baptisms/Christmations.
