  • Age Requirements: Child must turn 4 years old by 8/31/26. (No exceptions)

  • Eligibility Requirements
    Based on family's gross income. Please refer to the next page of this document.
    Eligibility does not guarantee placement.
  • Transportation
    Transportation is not provided by the NC Pre-K Program.
  • Hours
    The NC Pre-K Program operates for 6 1/2 hours each day. Times vary by location.
    (Start times: 7:15 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. Dismissal times: 1:45 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.)

    Similar to the public-school calendar, August-May.

  • Notification of Acceptance
    Families will be notified of their acceptance beginning in July by Iredell County Partnership for Young Children.
  • Before and After-School Care
    Provided at some locations. Call location for more information.
  • Family Engagement Expectations
    Families are expected to participate in activities for their child's classroom.
  • Initial Deadline
    May 29, 2026. Applications received after May 29 will be reviewed as space becomes available.

  • Parents/Families must complete the attached application to apply for the NC Pre-Kindergarten Program. You must use your child's legal name that is on his/her birth certificate on the application. If you change your address or your phone number, it is your responsibility to notify us. Please remember to sign the application. You can mail, email, or hand deliver the application and supporting documentation to the Iredell County Partnership for Young Children.   • What is NC Pre-K?
    NC Pre-K is a state funded program that helps prepare for 4-year-old children for kindergarten through high-quality early learning experiences. The program follows the local school system calendar for closings and teacher workdays.
  • What are the criteria for my child entering the NC Pre-K program?
    To be considered for NC Pre-K, your child must turn 4 years old by August 31, 2026, and your family must meet income eligibility guidelines. Employment is not required to qualify. Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee placement.

  • Do I qualify if my child receives public assistance?
    The income eligibility guidelines are specific to NC Pre-K and may differ from other programs. Receiving public assistance does not necessarily guarantee eligibility but is an eligibility factor and will be reviewed with proper documentation.
  • Is there a cost to attend NC Pre-K?
    The 6½-hour NC Pre-K school day is free. Programs may charge additional fees for before- or after-school care and/or transportation (if offered).
  • How do I apply for NC Pre-K?
    You can apply online or download an application at: https://www.iredellsmartstart.org/ncprek. Hard copies can be picked up from the inquiry boxes outside our offices at 734 Salisbury Rd., Statesville NC 28677 & 919 N. Main St., Mooresville, NC 28115.
  • How do I submit my application?
    Applications and required documents can be submitted online, mailed, emailed, or hand delivered. Refer to the contact information on the previous page. During the application process, families will only be contacted if more information is needed.
  • Can I choose my child's location?
    You may list your first, second, and third classroom location preference on the application. Placement requests are not guaranteed and are based on eligibility and need.
  • How will I know if my child is accepted? 

    • Complete applications received by May 29, 2026, will be prioritized in the first round of placements. 

    • Applications are not first-come, first-served. 

    • Meeting eligibility requirements does not guarantee placement. 

    • Space is limited and some eligible children may be placed on a waitlist. 

    • Applications received after May 29, 2026 will be reviewed as space comes available. 

    Families will be notified beginning in July by Iredell County Partnership for Young Children. Teachers will contact accepted families in August to schedule orientation. NC Pre-K typically begins about one week after public schools reopen.
