  • The European Energy Efficiency Award of the Year 2026 recognises outstanding individual leadership in advancing energy efficiency as a cornerstone of Europe’s energy transition, competitiveness, and energy security. The Award aims to highlight those who have made a meaningful and lasting contribution to placing energy efficiency at the heart of European policy and industrial transformation.

    Nominations will be assessed on the basis of three core evaluation criteria: impact, leadership, and replicability.

    The Award will be officially unveiled during a gala dinner that will take place on 14 October 2026.

  • 1. Impact

    The extent to which the project/nominees actions have delivered tangible and measurable improvements in energy efficiency, such as:

    • Reduced energy consumption or demand
    • Improved system efficiency
    • Long-term structural or behavioural change
    • Strengthened energy independence and resilience
    • Reduced exposure to energy price volatility
    • Enhanced economic competitiveness at local, national, or European level
  • 2. Leadership

    The nominee’s demonstrated ability to mobilise stakeholders, build consensus, and drive forward ambitious energy efficiency initiatives across sectors and governance levels.

  • 3. Replicability and Inspiration

    The potential for the nominee’s actions or approach to be replicated or scaled in other contexts, to inspire other policymakers, businesses, or citizens, and to serve as a model of good practice across Europe and beyond.
