  • Teree Caldwell-Johnson Servant Leader Scholarship

    This scholarship is in memory of Teree Caldwell-Johnson, who served as the president and CEO of Oakridge Neighborhood Services and as a school board member for Des Moines Public Schools (DMPS). It is available to DMPS graduates and graduating seniors who are pursuing additional education. This scholarship is intended to support underserved student populations and will provide special consideration for students who have lived at or participated in programming through the Oakridge Neighborhood. The application deadline is May 1. Incomplete applications will not be considered - please ensure all information is complete and all requested attachments are included in your submission by May 1 at midnight. Award notification will occur annually in June.
  • All applicants will be required to upload the following attachments with their application:

    • Personal Statement: A narrative (not to exceed 3 pages) in the form of a personal statement. Please address the following 3 Topics:
      • Discuss your personal and educational goals, motivations, and reasons for pursuing higher education.
      • Describe how you have encountered systemic barriers or adversity and how it has impacted you and your educational goals. 
      • What does servant leadership mean to you and how have you demonstrated it in your life?
    • Summary of School and Community Involvement/Achievements
    • Copy of Most Recent High School or College Transcript or HiSet (formerly GED) Scores (unofficial transcript is acceptable) 
    • One Academic Letter of Recommendation (teacher/educator)
    • One Personal Letter of Recommendation (from a non-relative)
