The mission of The Tuscaloosa Children's Center (TCC) is to provide a community based, multi-disciplinary response to child abuse victims and supportive family members by coordinating the efforts of the Office of the District Attorney, local law enforcement, the Department of Human Resources, and professional agencies involved in the investigation, management, and prosecution of child abuse cases; provide protection from further harm through investigation, medical evaluation, counseling, resource referrals and legal advocacy; advance awareness and understanding of the problem of child abuse through community education; and promote the safety and well-being of all children.
TCC regularly provides internship opportunities for students who are pursuing a career in social work, psychology, sociology, human development, criminal justice, etc. Although interns do not receive financial compensation for their services, they are able to gain invaluable work experience. Interns are expected to uphold a high level of professionalism and the moral standards contained in the TCC personnel handbook. Interns are subject to the same procedures regarding equal employment, background checks and signed confidentiality, etc. Interns are supervised by all staff members, but direct oversight of these individuals is the responsibility of both the Executive Director and the Child & Family Advocate.
