  • Personal Essay

    500-1000 words

    Choose One:

    1) Describe an experience that has been instrumental to the development of your interest in some aspect of conservation. What can one person do to make a real difference in their community, and in the world, when it comes to protecting, preserving and promoting our intricate network of resources? What have you personally done to that end?

    2) Write a first-person retrospective from the vantage point of your future self—pick an age—where you are looking back on a personal success, or memorable experience, chosen from a lifetime committed to some aspect of natural resource conservation. Pretend you're writing this for your children or grandchildren, or a large and captivated audience, sharing with them both your love of nature and the importance of nurturing our environment.

Essays will be judged on quality of writing, appropriateness of topic, originality, and relevance to conservation.
