This event will deepen understanding of the early childhood landscape while building advocacy capacity among early care and education providers and community members. The event will begin with a screening of Make a Circle, a documentary highlighting the experiences and impact of early childhood educators. Following the screening, First 8 Memphis and SCAN TN will lead a brief advocacy training focused on civic engagement ahead of Shelby County’s upcoming local elections.
By the end of the event, attendees should:
- Develop a deeper understanding of the importance of the early childhood workforce and systems through the Make a Circle Documentary
- Understand how local elections and local leadership can influence early care and education policies and funding
- Know how to locate and review their personal sample ballot ahead of upcoming elections
- Feel more confident navigating the voting process and identifying the races that appear on their ballot
- Identify civic engagement as one way providers and community members can help shape early childhood policies and priorities.
Registration for this event will close on April 2, 2026. If you have any questions, please reach out to timberly@first8memphis.org.
