• 2026 Excellence in Taxation Award

  • The Tax Section of the Indiana State Bar Association has long been committed to promoting excellence in tax law practice and fostering professional development. As our professional community continues to evolve, we recognize the need to recognize outstanding contributions to the field by formally acknowledging those individuals whose exceptional work, dedication, and efforts have significantly contributed to the field of tax law.

    To that end, the Section established the Excellence in Taxation Award. It is awarded once every two years and is designed to celebrate outstanding achievements and contributions to the tax community by individuals with a connection to Indiana. The award recognizes excellence and impact at the state and national level, highlighting the valuable contributions that individuals with Indiana ties have made to our legal system and the broader tax community.

    • Nominees may include attorneys, judges, academics, legislators, policy-makers, and other professionals who have made significant contributions to the field of tax law in Indiana or elsewhere.
    • Nominees must have a significant connection to Indiana or have made a contribution in Indiana.
    • Both current and retired professionals are eligible.
    • Nominees must be in good standing in their professional field.

    Nominees should demonstrate one or more of the following:

    Excellence in Practice

    • Demonstrated expertise in tax law through outstanding representation of clients, innovative tax planning, litigation success, or advocacy.
    • Commitment to high ethical standards and professionalism in the practice of tax law.

    Contributions to Scholarship or Education

    • Meaningful contributions to the understanding and development of tax law through teaching, writing, research, or public education. 
    • Mentorship of tax law professionals, students, or young lawyers.

    Leadership and Service 

    • Leadership within bar associations, professional organizations, or other entities promoting the development or integrity of tax law.
    • Service on committees, boards, or task forces related to taxation policy, reform, or administration.

    Advancement of the Tax System 

    • Contributions that enhance fairness, efficiency, or accessibility of the tax system.
    • Engagement in public service activities, pro bono representation, or work benefiting the broader community in the field of tax law.
