April 2026 Dog Training

Pets Lifeline offers humane education programs designed to keep pets happy, healthy, and thriving in their homes. This includes regular dog training classes that focus on building communication, confidence, and positive behaviors.

We currently offer five classes. Most run for four weeks, with the exception of our eight-week Reactive Rover class. Current offerings include Lifeline Learners (Basic Obedience Parts One), Sniffer School, Reactive Rover, Recreational Agility, and Fearful Fido.

Classes are held at the Pets Lifeline Animal Resource Center, located at 19686 8th Street East, Sonoma, and are led by Wayne Smith, and Suzie Yokomizo.

Please note: Beginning in April, class prices will be increasing. Additionally, classes may be canceled if enrollment is low, so early registration is recommended.

Sniffer School: An Intro to Scenting & Nosework – Sundays: April 12, 19, 26, May 3 1:15pm-2:30pm

If you’re looking for a fun, engaging activity to do with your dog or puppy, scenting is a great fit. Dogs use their natural instincts while you learn how to create simple to more challenging searches and strengthen your connection along the way. Scenting provides both mental and physical stimulation, which often leaves even high-energy dogs calmer and more relaxed afterward. It’s a great complement to regular walks and an ideal option for rainy, hot, or smoky days when outdoor exercise is limited. Scenting for Fun is taught across three working levels and can be repeated as often as you like. Each level can be adjusted to different skill levels, making it suitable for puppies through experienced dogs.

Reactive Rover: Confidence and Calm for Reactive Dogs – Fridays: April 3, 10, 17, 24 & May 8, 15, 22, 29. 5:00pm-6:15pm 8 CLASSES TOTAL

Does your dog react to other dogs, bikes, scooters, or people on walks? If outings feel stressful or hard to manage at times, you’re not alone. Reactivity is common, and this class is designed to help. Reactive Rover focuses on understanding your dog’s body language, learning how different situations affect them, and building skills that help them feel more comfortable and confident. We start with foundation exercises and gradually build on them to support calmer responses and safer, more manageable walks.

Fearful Fido: Building Confidence in Nervous Dogs - Thursdays: April 9, 16, 23, 30 6:30pm-7:30pm

Fearful Fido is a supportive, positive-reinforcment dog training class designed for dogs who are shy, anxious, or fearful in new situations. In this class, dogs and their owners learn new techniques to build confidence, reduce stress, and encourage calm, cooperative behaviors in everyday situations.

Pets Lifeline adopters and adopters from other shelters receive a $25 discount. Please upload proof of adoption and select the discounted class option below.

Dogs must have two DA2PP vaccinations and a current Bordetella. Puppies must be symptom-free, with no coughing, sneezing, vomiting, or diarrhea within 24 hours of class.

1. Acknowledgement of Risks

Participant acknowledges that dog training involves inherent risks, including but not limited to bites, scratches, falls, and other injuries to both dogs and humans. Participant understands that even well-trained dogs can be unpredictable and that the actions of other participants and their dogs are beyond the control of Pets Lifeline.

2. Release of Liability

Participant, on behalf of themselves and their heirs, assigns, and representatives, hereby releases, waives, discharges, and covenants not to sue Pets Lifeline, its officers, directors, employees, agents, volunteers, and any other persons or entities acting on its behalf (collectively, the "Released Parties") from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, causes of action, suits, liabilities, damages, costs, expenses, and attorneys' fees arising out of or in any way connected with Participant’s participation in the dog training class, including but not limited to any injury to Participant or Participant’s dog, whether caused by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise.

3. Indemnification

Participant agrees to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from any and all claims, liabilities, damages, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to Participant’s participation in the dog training class, including any injury to third parties or damage to property caused by Participant’s dog.

4. Assumption of Risk

Participant acknowledges that they have voluntarily enrolled in the dog training class and assume all risks of injury or harm associated with their participation. Participant further acknowledges that they are solely responsible for their own safety and the safety of their dog.

5. Medical Authorization

In the event of an injury to Participant or Participant’s dog, Participant hereby authorizes Pets Lifeline to seek medical attention and treatment as necessary. Participant agrees to bear any costs associated with such treatment.

6. Arbitration

Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to this Agreement, or the breach thereof, shall be settled by binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association in accordance with its Commercial Arbitration Rules, and judgment on the award rendered by the arbitrator(s) may be entered in any court having jurisdiction thereof. The place of arbitration shall be Sonoma County, California. The arbitration shall be conducted by a single arbitrator. Each party shall bear its own costs and attorneys' fees, and shall share equally in the fees and costs of the arbitration.

7. Severability

If any provision of this Agreement is held to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect. 8. Entire AgreementThis Agreement constitutes the entire understanding between the parties with respect to the subject matter hereof and supersedes all prior agreements, understandings, negotiations, and discussions, whether oral or written.
