  • The Hand Engravers Association is delighted to invite entries from students who can demonstrate a keen interest in hand engraving.

    Aims:

    To foster students who show a keen interest in hand engraving in order to develop their skills. To build lasting structures in place to allow HEA to support talented individuals and promote hand engraving to a wider audience.


    Requirements:

    The prize is open to all current students and apprentices, particularly relevant to those wishing to pursue engraving. 

    Applicants are required to submit up to 6 images of their engraved work and up to 3 drawing/design samples.  Images must be of good quality and resolution.

    Image spec requirements: Jpeg at 300 dpi with the shortest side no less than 15cm. Files should be less than 5MB each. Please include at least one close-up/detailed image. 

    Applicants must also submit a CV, or description of their studies up to this point, and a short statement addressing their interest and experience in engraving and their expected course end date (no more than 250 words). 

    ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY 12pm on Friday 29th May 2026

    Judging:

    The submissions will be judged one week after the Deadline by one Trustee and two professional members of the Association.


    The Award:

    There will be two prizes: one for the winner of the award and one for the runner-up


    The Winner will receive: 

    One year's free membership of the Hand Engravers Association

    Help with travel costs (or similar) for at least one member event (up to a maximum of £100)

    A free place on a relevant course offered by the Hand Engravers Association.  This could be online or in person and is offered subject to availability.  The course must be taken before 31st December 2027.

    The Runner-up will receive:

    One year's free membership of the Hand Engravers Association

  • Engraving images:

    Please take a photo of up to six different samples of your best engraving. This can be any type of hand engraving, and should demonstrate the breadth of your skill.  Images must be of good quality and resolution: image specs: Jpeg at 300 dpi with the shortest side no less than 15cm. Files should be less than 5MB each. Please include at least one close-up/detail image.  If you have any problem uploading your files please email info@handengravers.org.uk

  • Terms & Conditions – Student Prize Competition 2026

    1.      Entrance into the competition is deemed to signify acceptance of the Terms and Conditions.

    2.      The Student Prize 2026 is owned and run by the charity The Hand Engravers Association of Great Britain.

    3.      Contact details you provide on the Entry Form will be shared with staff and volunteers at the Hand Engravers Association only as required by the purposes of the competition. 

    4.      You must own or have permission to use the photos, images or designs you submit. All entries must be the original work of the entrant and must not infringe the rights of any other party.

    5.      Entrants must be over 18 and resident in the UK

    6.      Each of the shortlisted entrants will be contacted by email by staff or volunteers at the Hand Engravers Association. The judging will take place one week after the competition closing date.

    7.      The entrant grants the Hand Engravers Association an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive right to use the images submitted for the competition for the Association’s promotional and charitable activities. No royalties will be payable to the winning entrant.

    8.   By taking part in this competition, you understand that the images may be used by the Hand Engravers Association for general marketing purposes in relation to engraving and may appear in social media, magazines, local, regional and national communications, both in print and online.

    9.   Prizes as stated and are not transferrable. No cash equivalent will be offered. 

    10.  Entries must be received by 12pm May 29th, 2026.  

    11.   The Hand Engravers Association reserves the right to publish the winning design and details of the winner (e.g. name, and engraving interest/status of the entrant) as and where deemed appropriate. This could include on the Association website and social media pages.

    12.   The Hand Engravers Association reserves the right to vary these terms and conditions and deadline. Any changes will appear on our website.
