  • The City University of New York - Initiative on Immigration and Education (CUNY-IIE) is offering free virtual professional learning opportunities to PreK-12 educators across New York State! Upon successful completion of an immigration and education focused module, educators will earn 15 Continuing Teacher and Leader Education (CTLE) credit hours. The modules will include a 1-hour assignment prior to the start of the course (found at the end of this registration form), 7.5 mandatory hours of synchronous sessions, and an additional 6.5 hours of asynchronous small group and independent work.

  • The application form will close once we reach capacity or by Monday March 30th 11:59pm EDT, whichever occurs first. Please note that completing this form does not guarantee acceptance into the module. All submissions will be reviewed in the order received, as long as space remains available.

    E-mails confirming a spot in one of our CTLE modules will be sent out by the evening of Wednesday, April 1st.   • Please note that we can only offer participation to educators working in public PreK-12 schools in New York State at this time. While priority will be given to registrants who have not completed a CUNY-IIE CTLE Module in the past, those who previously enrolled and completed a CUNY-IIE CTLE Module may also be considered, space-permitting.

    Description: This virtual module will help educators explore and identify what advocacy can look like in our schools and classrooms, learn how to support immigrant-origin students with college and career access and understand how to support immigrant-origin youth empowerment in and out of schools. In today’s challenging political climate that threatens immigrant communities, this course will provide opportunities for secondary educators not only to discuss key issues, but also to connect with community stakeholders in order to identify the concrete actions they can take to support students and families.

    • Wednesday, April 15th, 6:00pm-8:30pm on Zoom
    • Wednesday, April 22nd, 6:00pm-8:30pm on Zoom

This response helps determine your placement in the course and constitutes 1 hour of CTLE participation, so please be sure to answer carefully and thoroughly. Reflecting honestly and openly about your experiences, prior knowledge, and questions about this topic will help us dive deeper into conversations around supporting immigrant and refugee students and their families in school settings.
