About the event:
This will be a relaxed, hands-on ceramics session designed especially for children aged 7–12+ (KS2). Each child will be given a pre-made clay tile to decorate using ceramic paints, stamps, and simple clay techniques. They’ll be encouraged to explore pattern, colour and imagery, taking inspiration from nature, storytelling, or their own imagination.
Because the tiles will be pre-fired, children will be able to take their finished pieces home on the same day. The tiles won’t be glazed at this stage, which allows for easy same-day completion and makes the workshop accessible and family-friendly.
The session will be suitable for beginners and no previous experience is needed. I’ll guide the children through ideas, mark-making and painting techniques, while allowing plenty of freedom for personal creativity.
The workshop will last approximately one hour and aims to offer a calm, creative space where children can experiment with clay and colour, learn a little about ceramics, and leave with a piece of artwork they’ve made themselves.
About the facilitator:
Ariadna Alvarez, a ceramicist and sculptor who has a background in architecture and works mainly with stoneware, producing functional ceramics and sculptural forms that are inspired by nature and landscape and celebrate texture and form.
