  • Roles Being Cast (All roles open):

MARY LENNOX – Character is female, pre-teen, any ethnicity (Soprano); sent to live with her uncle when her parents die from cholera in India. Stubborn and precocious, but always fighting for what she believes in. A lead role who anchors our story.

ARCHIBALD CRAVEN – Character is male, 30s-40s, any ethnicity (Bari-tenor); Mary’s uncle and lord of Misselthwaite Manor. He has a hunchback. Haunted by the past and afraid of the future, he locks himself away both physically and mentally. Mary painfully reminds him too much of his wife, Lily, who died ten years ago. A lead role requiring a strong actor with soaring vocals.

LILY – Character is female, 20s-30s, any ethnicity (Soprano); Mary’s late aunt and Archibald Craven’s deceased wife who exists as a haunting spirit, looking after her husband and child. She has an ethereal and maternal presence. A lead role with heart and a glorious legit sound.

DR. NEVILLE CRAVEN – Character is male, 30s-40s, any ethnicity (Baritone); Archibald’s brother. Oversees the caretaking of Colin. Had feelings for Lily that went unrequited, he is a complex character who demonstrates both loyalty and resentment toward Archibald.

COLIN CRAVEN – Character is male, pre-teen, any ethnicity (Boy Soprano); Spends his life in bed due to a heart condition. Spoiled and prone to temper tantrums until he befriends Mary, who helps him gain strength – both physically and emotionally.

MARTHA – Character is female, late teens-20s, any ethnicity (Mezzo); A faithful housemaid with a strong Yorkshire accent who befriends Mary. Although she is from a lower-class family, her wisdom is often far beyond her age.

DICKON – Character is male, late teens-20s, any ethnicity (Tenor); Martha’s younger brother who looks after the plants and animals within the Misselthwaite grounds—including Mary. He is a young man who is between the world of child imagination and adult reasoning. Has a bit of a conjuring spirit.

ROSE LENNOX – Character is female, 20s-40s, any ethnicity (Soprano); Mary’s late mother who appears throughout as a spirit/dreamer. A strong woman who remains loyal to her family and urged Lily not to marry Archibald.

CAPTAIN ALBERT LENNOX – Character is male, 20s-40s, any ethnicity (Tenor); Mary’s late father who appears throughout as a spirit/dreamer. A military man who tries to protect his family.

BEN WEATHERSTAFF – Character is male, 40s-60s, any ethnicity (Flexible); Head groundskeeper for many years who knows a great deal about the history of the family and the garden. He calls himself “an old man.”

MRS. MEDLOCK – Character is female, 30s-60s, any ethnicity (Flexible); Archibald’s housekeeper. As cold as the Misselthwaite Manor.

ENSEMBLE – Adults of varying genders, ages, and ethnicities to portray spirits, servants, and others. Requires strong singers for featured solo and choral moments throughout.
