  • Terms and Conditions

Please indicate that you agree with the terms and conditions provided below by selecting “agree” next to each item.
  • 1. Animal abuse and neglect. Virginia Code 3.2-6549 prohibits the staff of animal releasing agencies, including volunteers, from having a history of animal abuse and neglect. I attest that I have never been convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment. If I am ever convicted of animal cruelty, neglect, or abandonment, I will immediately notify FELT, and I understand that I will no longer be eligible to volunteer for FELT.*
  • 2. Risk of transmitting diseases to people and pets. I understand that volunteering to work with companion animals carries a risk of transmitting diseases, parasites, and fungal infections to animals; and parasites (like fleas) and fungal infections (like ringworm) to people living in my home. In the event that any issues arise, I agree to NOT hold FELT liable for any associated costs or to pursue legal action.*
  • 3. Adequate cleaning and hygiene practices when handling animals. I understand that some animal diseases, such as feline calicivirus and panleukopenia, as well as fungal infections, like ringworm, can linger on clothing, pet bedding, furniture, food bowls, water dishes, etc. I agree to change my clothing and practice appropriate hygiene practices in order to adequately protect my own animal(s) and any FELT foster animal(s). I understand that some hand sanitizers may not be effective against the spread of these diseases and fungal infections, so FELT requires proper handwashing techniques and the use of accelerated hydrogen peroxide products, like Rescue, and disinfectant sprays, like Lysol to prevent the spread of animal diseases.*
  • 4. Providing veterinary care for FELT animals. All decisions regarding the medical care of FELT animals are made by the FELT intake team or in the case of an urgent situation, a FELT urgent care responder in collaboration with the foster provider or the Executive Director. Volunteers must not initiate or authorize any such care without prior approval. If the urgent care responder is not responsive and an animal requires immediate help, I agree to contact the Executive Director to request a referral to receive urgent care. If prior approval is not provided, I understand that FELT WILL ONLY REIMBURSE COSTS DEEMED NECESSARY BY THE BOARD.*
  • 5. Rescuing companion animals on my own. I agree to notify FELT within 24 hours if I find a companion animal that I plan to bring into my home for rescue purposes. I understand that if FELT does not have the current capacity to provide for the animal that I will be personally responsible for its care, including supplying and providing adequate food, water, shelter, and veterinary care, until FELT is able to take custody of the animal. I understand that FELT WILL ONLY REIMBURSE COSTS DEEMED NECESSARY AND APPROPRIATE BY THE BOARD.*
  • 6. Providing medical care (urgent or otherwise) to animals that are not in the custody of FELT. I understand that FELT is not responsible for the medical costs of animals that are not in FELT custody. If I bring an animal into my care that has not been taken into FELT custody, I understand that I can request reimbursement for the costs but FELT WILL ONLY REIMBURSE COSTS DEEMED NECESSARY AND APPROPRIATE BY THE BOARD.*
