2026 Q1 BCF Community Impact Survey
  • BCF Community Impact Survey

Thank you to everyone who shared their thoughts in response to our recent social media question about community needs—your 50+ interactions helped shape the funding categories included in this survey. The Barrow Community Foundation is now seeking your input to help guide our community grantmaking priorities. Please take a few moments to review and rank the ideas that emerged from your feedback. Your responses will be reviewed by our Board of Directors as they determine funding priorities. Once set, local nonprofits, government agencies, and other charitable organizations will be encouraged to submit grant proposals to bring these community-driven projects to life.
  • Please review the descriptions below, then rank the categories in the following question based on which areas you believe would have the greatest positive impact on the community if awarded a grant of up to $50,000.

  • Aging-Out of Foster Care: Providing support for programs that assist young adults as they leave the foster care system and begin to live independently.

Community Resource Database:  Developing a comprehensive tool that catalogs all available community resources and makes the information accessible to the public.

Early Literacy/School Readiness: Helping young students learn how to read and succeed in school.

Financial Literacy and Self-Sufficiency: Developing programs and services that help people learn to earn and manage money to increase financial stability.

Life Skills/Prevention:  Programs to help people develop skills they need to make good choices that lead to success, including parenting classes, child abuse prevention, addiction prevention, and other life skills.

Housing Insecurity: Developing programs or providing services to assist individuals and transition them out of homelessness or help them avoid eviction.

Self-Sufficiency for People with Learning Differences:  Programs that support young adults who are no longer in school in developing skills they need to live independently.

Summer Recreation: Developing programs or providing services to increase opportunities for young people to have positive experiences during the summer months, including character development, life skills, recreation and community service.

Transportation:  Programs that assist individuals in need of transportation within the community.

  • Based on your feedback last fall, the Barrow Community Foundation selected Early Literacy and Housing Insecurity as the funding priorities for Fall 2025 grant round. Grants were awarded to two local non-profits who are providing a new pre-school for 3-year-olds focusing on early literacy and school readiness, and a transitional housing programs that helps single mothers become self-sufficient. Do you think it is more important to continue these priorities or support something new?
