• Sickle Cell Boot Camp to Promote Nursing Excellence Utilizing A Train the Trainer Model

    September 21-25, 2026
  • SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Friday, May 29, 2026 (Midnight CST)

The Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Nursing Bootcamp is a collaborative program hosted by the International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses and Professional Associates (IASCNAPA), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Department of Hematology (SJCRH), and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Nursing (UTHSC). This evidence-based program welcomes registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants involved in sickle cell disease (SCD) patient care and management, including experienced clinicians, researchers, administrators, and academia, and those newer to the field. The goal is to bring together participants with diverse experience levels and broad geographic representation.

The bootcamp will be held Monday, September 21 – Friday, September 25, 2026, at SJCRH and the UTHSC in Memphis, Tennessee. Participants must attend the entire five-day program (8:30 AM–4:30 PM Monday–Thursday and 8:30 AM–2:00 PM Friday), with a special group activity and dinner scheduled Wednesday evening. The program is in-person and highly interactive, featuring evidence-based practice exercises, teach-back training, breakout sessions, and collaborative discussions, as well as project development outside scheduled hours.

Space is limited and the application process is competitive. Applicants must work in the United States and must confirm participation and submit required documentation within two weeks of acceptance. Travel and lodging will be covered for participants coming from outside the Memphis metropolitan area. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided Monday through Friday, and transportation between the hotel and bootcamp locations will be arranged. Participants will also be expected to take part in follow-up activities for 12 months after the program to share how they have applied the training in their practice. Photographs may be taken during the bootcamp and used by UTHSC, SJCRH, and IASCNAPA for program-related purposes.
