Hello! If you've received this form it means you've shown interest in participating in the Palestine Solidarity Collective @ YorkU fundraiser art gallery. This project was started by a member of PSC due to the firing of a curator at an art gallery at York for refusing to unjustly remove a pro-Palestinian art piece at the behest of Zionist higher ups, not limited to the ex-president of the university as well as the gallery owners. In addition to this incident, York has also attempted to label itself as a "decolonial institution", while ignoring Indigenous community members, endorsing the gentrification and expansion of the campus, cutting Indigenous Studies as well as enforcing through violence and surveillance the abuse of Palestinian solidarity advocates.
The purpose of the gallery is to take up space and remind people that decolonialism is our future, show off (using York's own campus) their complicity and hypocrisies, as well as fundraise and support our community here and abroad.
Some details:
- The gallery is booked from April 13th - April 24th, in the Special Projects Gallery at York University Keele Campus.
- 100% of proceeds will be going towards Grassy Narrows, Toronto Indigenous Harm Reduction and Gaza Soup Kitchen
- This gallery will be focused on topics such as imperialism, decolonization and the ongoing struggle against genocide here on Turtle Island and in Palestine. This will not be a censored space, and is intended to be both educational, radical, empowering and uplifting of voices that are marginalized and criminalized by our campus.
- There will be written pieces detailing things like York's complicity in zionism, colonialism and white supremacy. Anything that you feel resonates with you and against these things works, even if it's just you demonstrating your culture as a form of resistance.
- WE ARE PRIORITIZING BACKGROUNDS WITH COLLECTIVE HISTORY FIGHTING AGAINST COLONIALISM (NATIVE, PALESTINIAN, BLACK, BROWN ETC)! If there is still room after the fact then we will accept more, so apply regardless!
- Please note that all fundraising done through the gallery will be strictly charity. You will have the option to give us consent to print some of your pieces for the purpose of selling at the gallery and/or exhibiting your original art work in the gallery.
