Dressage WA are seeking a passionate, motivated, and goal-driven person to deliver the 2026 WA State Dressage Championships held at the State Equestrian Centre 11th to 13th September 2026.
The WA State Dressage Championships is the pinnacle event on the dressage competition calendar and is WA's largest dressage competition. The event typically has over 100 riders and 150 horses compete through the levels from preliminary to FEI Grand Prix across the three days. In addition, it attracts a large number of rider support crews, spectators, and volunteers as some of the state's best horse and rider combinations battle for the coveted state championship title of their dressage level.
Leadership and Governance
- Efficient, professional coordination and oversight of all event operations
- Act as the primary link between the event organising committee and Dressage WA/Equestrian WA
- Chair organising committee meetings and report back to Dressage WA
- Ensure all activities and events align with EWA policies, safeguarding standards and national guidelines
Planning and Operations
- Development and implementation of the event schedule, competition program and event draw
- Assist in preparation and adherence to the Risk Management Plan
- Coordinate with EWA staff regarding venue bookings and facilities
- Coordinate with DWA and DJTF regarding judges, officials and accommodation as required
- Manage external suppliers including emergency first aid and other contractors
- Coordinate presentations and welcome drinks/functions as required
Financials
- Lead budget development and reporting for the event, working in collaboration with the DWA Treasurer
- Ensure efficient use of resources and cost-effective event delivery
- Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
- Work with DWA to develop a media and marketing plan for the event
- Maintain clear, timely communication with DWA, EWA and key stakeholders.
Event Delivery and Reporting
- Ensure smooth day to day running of all competition and non-competition activities
- Complete a post-event report and lead the event debrief process
- Contribute to continuous improvement and development of future State Championships
Emergency and Contingency Planning
- Ensure emergency response procedures are in place and communicated
- Leading contingency planning for weather, biosecurity, or operational disruptions
Customer Service and Experience
- Ensure a positive experience for riders, supporters, spectators, officials, and sponsors
- Managing feedback channels during the event
Successful delivery of this event requires close collaboration with the Organising Committee, Dressage WA Committee and EWA Staff
Required Skills and Knowledge
- Understanding of equestrian events is required - managing discipline equestrian events is highly desirable
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, negotiation and conflict management skills
- Ability to think strategically and respond to issues appropriately as they arise
- Strong planning and organisational skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritise and delegate tasks efficiently
- Flexibility with hours and tasks - availability on weekends and weeknights if required
