• 2026 Scholarship Form - Corpus Christi Alumnae Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

  • The Corpus Christi Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is proud to accept applications for our 2026 Textbook Scholarship. The scholarship(s) will be awarded to a local graduating high school senior(s).

    Candidates must meet the following requirements:

    • Must be a graduating senior from a high school or a first-year college student in one of the following counties: Nueces, San Patricio, Aransas, or Kleberg
    • Must possess a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale or a 4.0 on a 5.0 point scale
    • Must have plans to attend an accredited college or university within one year of graduation
    • Must be an African American male or female student

    **IMPORTANT**

    All applicants are asked to complete all information on the application (if you do not have an applicable answer for a required field, please enter "N/A"

    Applicants are required to submit an official transcript.

    Applications are due no later than 11:59 p.m. on May 16, 2026.

  • Application Packet Instructions

    Your application packet must be complete to be considered for the scholarship. At least one missing item constitutes an incomplete packet.

    The following items must be included for the application packet to be considered complete:

    • Completed application form 
    • Official transcript including grade point average and courses taken (if GPA is not included on transcipt, provide additional official documentation confirming your GPA)
    • Two (2) letters of recommendation; including one (1) from a high school or college counselor or other member of the campus's professional staff who can describe your academic accomplishments and leadership skills, and one (1) from a person who has knowledge of your extracurricular and/or community service activities. Letters cannot be written by family members.

  • Please have your references submit a typed letter of recommendation for you. Each letter of recommendation should be signed, dated, and uploaded with this application package.

    These letters should include the following information:

    • Relationship to the applicant
    • How long the reference has known the applicant
    • Statement about why the reference believes the applicant should receive the scholarship award

  • Applicants are required to submit an essay that answers a question about a relevant topic.

    The essay is an important part of the selection process. The essay must be typed in the space provided on this application. During the review of these essays, judges will consider the following criteria in selecting winners:

    • Creativity
    • Correct use of grammar and punctuation
    • Originality and quality of ideas presented
    • 500 word limit

    Answer the following question in your essay:

    Higher education often requires perseverance in the face of obstacles. This is especially true for Black students with some studies indicating that over 35% deal with financial burdens and over 20% experience discrimination on campus. These factors can contribute to lower graduation rates compared to other students. Describe a cultural, financial or personal barrier you have encountered while pursuing your educational goals. What actions did you take to overcome them and move forward, and how did the experience prepare you to continue your educational journey?
