    Exhibit Title: Fiber, Fabric and Thread: On and Off the Wall.  2026

    Exhibit Theme:

    This exhibition brings together artworks whose primary materials are natural or synthetic fibers, textiles, and thread. Featuring both two- and three-dimensional works, it highlights contemporary fiber practices that expand beyond conventional definitions—moving fluidly between wall-based and free-standing forms. The exhibition emphasizes innovation, material exploration, and the reimagining of traditional techniques within a contemporary context.

     

    Exhibition Dates: Monday, June 29 - Friday, August 28 

    Works will be curated and displayed both physically at the Menino Arts Center and online in a virtual 3D gallery where you can enter, stroll, and view at your own pace.

    Artists Reception: Saturday, July 11, 3:30-5pm

    Juror's Bio:

    Jennifer Chrzanowski is the Executive Director of Fuller Craft Museum, bringing over 20 years of experience as an arts leader with a strong record of institutional growth, strategic leadership, and community engagement.

    Prior to joining Fuller Craft, Chrzanowski served as Deputy Director—and in 2024, Interim Director—of the Academy Art Museum in Easton, Maryland. There, she led a major campus expansion and championed the landmark exhibition Bugatti: Reaching for Perfection. She also spearheaded the museum’s highly successful 3-day juried Craft Show, which brought together artists from across the country and attracted broad regional attention. Her curatorial work includes The Subversive Thread, named one of Bmore Art Magazine’s top five exhibitions of fall 2024 for its bold exploration of contemporary embroidery and craft.

    Earlier in her career, Chrzanowski was the Founding Director of DNJ Gallery in Los Angeles, where she curated acclaimed exhibitions featuring artists such as Joe Goode, Eileen Cowin, Jo Ann Callis, and Bill Owens. She was also the Operations Manager at the Augusta Museum of History, where she developed innovative, community-focused programming.

    She holds a BFA in film, photography, and electronic media from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an MA in photography from Columbia College Chicago.

    The Menino Arts Center is run by the Hyde Park Art Association, a 501c(3) organization. The MAC serves the neighborhood of Hyde Park, Greater Boston and its suburban counterparts. With over 4000 square feet of space, the MAC is home to a large teaching classroom, seven affordable artist studios,  three galleries, an auditorium and the organization’s offices. The mission of the HPAA is to support local artists, make cultural opportunities accessible to families, students, and seniors who may not otherwise have the means to participate; enrich community life, serve as a unifying force in the neighborhood; and help create a more vibrant commercial district.

    Submission Fee:

    HPAA Members: $30 for up to three pieces

    Non Members: $40 for up to three pieces

    Eligibility: This call is open to all artists

    Size Requirements:

    Wall hanging: 2D work (or work that can hang on a wall) cannot exceed 72" H x 72" W x 8" Depth

    3D works: cannot exceed H 72” x  W 30”. Artists must provide their own pedestal and materials to secure work to the base/pedestal.

    Artworks exhibited at the MAC and/or HPAA in the last three years are not eligible.  

    Framing Guidelines: Ready to hang. Wall pieces must have either sleeves and artist-supplied dowels for hanging OR a securely attached wire, not visible when hung. If mailing in your work, you do not need to supply dowels. Artists must provide their own pedestal and hardware for 3D works which must be able to be secured to the pedestal at installation. If mailing in your 3D work, you do not need to supply a pedestal. 

    The gallery has several pedestals available, but you must contact the Curator at hpaamacsubmissions@gmail.com to reserve one. 

    All work will be juried (with no reference to your name), using the jpegs submitted.  

    Image Upload Guidelines: The most important aspect of the virtual 3D gallery is that the artwork is ONLY displayed by the jpgs submitted so the quality should be the best it can be. It is understood that the size of the work might necessitate seeing a bit of the background in the jpg. This background may be digitally removed by the curator for the online presentation.  

    1. Save entries as a jpeg at 1500 pixels on the longest side at 72 DPI.  

    2. Entries will be juried with no reference to your name.

    3. Label the jpeg with the Title only.  Ex: The Green Stripe.jpg

    4. This title must match the "Title of Entry".  Ex: The Green Stripe

    Please, you must retitle jpgs as needed. 

     

    Labels: The Menino Arts Center will make the proper Gallery labels. The labels/notecards you make are for artwork identification only.

    1) Label/note card with Name, Email and Phone # must be securely fixed/pinned to the back of the artwork. Tape on all sides. 

    2) Label/notecard with Name and Title must be removable, fixed/pinned, to the front.

    Mailed In Work: arrive any time before Mon, Jun 15, 2026

    You must include a pre-paid return label from USPS, UPS or FEDEX with your shipment.

    Please note, there are size restrictions using USPS.    Check https://postcalc.usps.com/    Please use a sturdy box that can be reused for return. Your work will be returned shortly after de-installation provided you have adhered to all instructions for their safe return. 

     

    Sales: All artwork may be for sale. The HPAA retains 30% of the sale price. Please price work accordingly. If not for sale, please write NFS in Price of Entry. Sales will be coordinated through the Menino Arts Center at www.hpaa-mac.org

     

    Accepted artists will be asked to write a paragraph or two about why, how, with whom they make fiber art, and how they source or select materials.

    Submissions must not exceed one page and should be formatted as follows: Font: Calbri, Size: 12pt, Spacing: Single-spaced

    At the top of the document, include your First and Last Name, followed by the Title(s) of your submission(s).

    Artwork not claimed will be considered a donation to the MAC. 

     

    Liabilities and Responsibilities: The Menino Arts Center will not be responsible for loss or damage of any artwork, no matter what the cause. By submitting artwork to this exhibition, each artist agrees to this statement. Artwork is not insured by HPAA-MAC during the exhibition. Adequate insurance is the sole responsibility of the artist.

    No artwork (real or virtual) may be removed before the close of the exhibition.

    Publicity: By entering this exhibition, the artist gives consent that the submitted images can be used by the Menino Arts Center for reproduction in print and on social media, for publicity and educational purposes, with artist credit given.
