  • Dear CSI Members,

    Following the overwhelming response to the Instruction Courses at last Keracon, we are excited to announce the return of this feature at KERACON 2026. These courses provide a valuable platform for sharing knowledge and expertise on a wide range of topics relevant to current clinical practice.

    We invite you to submit your proposals for the Instruction Courses, which are designed to foster engagement and learning among our members.

    A total of 27 courses, each 60 minutes long, will be conducted.

     Guidelines for Instruction Course Submissions

    1.Course Structure:

    ·       Each course will be 60 minutes in duration.

    ·       The format should include 40 minutes of presentations followed by 20 minutes of interactive discussion.

    2. Course Content:

    ·       Courses should be structured to cover the topic comprehensively.

    ·       Presentations must be formatted for clear and effective teaching.

    ·       Allow ample time for audience interaction and Q&A.

    3. Submission Limits:

    ·       Each IC can have a maximum of four instructors including chief instructor
    ·       A member can submit only one IC as chief author

    4. Instructor Requirements:

    ·      Chief instructor must be be a CSI member for at least 3 years
    ·      A member can participate in maximum of 2 IC (chief instructor and/or co-instructor)

    5.Submission Process:

    ·       All submissions must be made online via the CSI website.

    ·       Please use the prescribed submission format available on the CSI webpage.

  • Abstract Structure

    Course Title

    The title of the course SHOULD NOT exceed 100 characters (including spaces).

    Course Outline (Synopsis)

    Instruction course synopsis SHOULD NOT exceed 1000 characters (including spaces).

    Topics for each speaker and time allotted for the topic

    Fill co-instructors’ names, topics and time allotted for each topic in the separate box given. These details SHOULD NOT to be mentioned in the Synopsis of the course. The topics SHOULD NOT exceed 100 characters (including spaces)

    Chief Instructor’s Resume (600 characters only)

    Ensure the Chief Instructor’s resume, not exceeding 600 characters (including spaces), is prepared with care and is complete. Ensure that the name of Institution of the Instructors, place of work or positions are not revealed. The resume should be so written as to not to reveal the identity of the chief instructor or of the Institution – These, If mentioned, may lead to Non-Consideration / Rejection of the Course.

    Level of Course

    Indicate the appropriate level: Basic, Intermediate or Advanced.

    1.  IC: Penetrating Keratoplasty

    Details:

    a.  Therapeutic Penetrating Keratoplasty

    Decision-making, surgical planning, and techniques for therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty

    b.  Optical Penetrating Keratoplasty

    Techniques for optical penetrating keratoplasty, often in combination with other procedures.

    c.  Post-Keratoplasty Astigmatism Management

    Surgical tips to reduce post-keratoplasty astigmatism, various management strategies to address post-keratoplasty astigmatism

    2.  IC: Lamellar and Endothelial Keratoplasty Techniques

    Details:

    a.  Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty

    Indications, surgical techniques (including DALK), and postoperative management of ALK

    b.  DSEK

    Decision-making, surgical planning, and techniques for DSEK

    c.  DMEK

    Decision-making, surgical planning, and techniques for DMEK

    3. IC: Corneal Ectasia: Advanced Interventions

    Details: 

    a.  Beyond conventional crosslinking in corneal ectasia

    Various clinical applications and techniques of collagen crosslinking beyond the traditional Dresden protocol

    b.  CAIRS

    Patient selection, donor tissue preparation, surgical techniques, postoperative management in keratoconus and related corneal ectatic conditions.

    c.  Stromal Augmentation for Corneal Ectasia

    Techniques such as Bowman’s layer transplant and lenticule insertion for managing corneal ectasia.

    4.  IC: Corneal Perforations and Acute Ocular Surface Emergencies

    Details:

    a.  Corneal Perforations

    Diagnosis and surgical management of corneal perforations, addressing both emergency and elective interventions with emphasis on preserving globe integrity and restoring visual function

    b.  Acute Ocular Surface Emergencies

    Ocular surface burns (chemical/thermal), Stevens-Johnson Syndrome (SJS), and other acute ocular surface emergencies – diagnosis, staging and management protocols

    5. IC: Infective Keratitis and Microbiological Applications

    Details: 

    a.  Infective Keratitis – Viral Keratitis

    Evidence-based approaches to the diagnosis and management of viral keratitis

    b.  Infective Keratitis (Other than Viral Keratitis)

    Updates on the current understanding and management of bacterial, fungal, and acanthamoeba keratitis.

    c.  Microbiology & Pathology Applications in Cornea

    Role of microbiology and pathology in corneal diseases, focusing on the diagnosis, pathogenesis, and management of infectious and non-infectious corneal conditions. Interpretation of microbiological investigations for effective clinical decision-making.

    6.   IC: Cataract Surgery and Contact Lens Management in Corneal Disorders

    Details:

    a.  Complex Cataract Surgery in Corneal Disorders

    Techniques and considerations for performing cataract surgery in patients with various corneal disorders.

    b.  Contact Lenses

    Fitting guidelines for various contact lenses and their use in managing corneal and ocular surface disorders

    7.  IC: Refractive surgery

    Details:

    a.  Lasik and other ablative procedures

    LASIK, PRK and other procedures, indications, and outcomes, tips for safe surgery

    b.  Keratolenticule extraction

    Surgical technique, advantages, indications and outcomes.

    c.  Complications, retreatments and sequelae

    Identifying and treatment of complications, indications for retreatment, factors that decide on preferred mode of re-treatment

    8.  IC: Keratopigmentation

    Details:

    a.  Keratopigmentation

    Principles and techniques of keratopigmentation for therapeutic and cosmetic indications. It covers patient selection, surgical methods (superficial, intrastromal, and femtosecond-assisted), pigment selection, and management of complications to enhance both visual function and aesthetic outcomes.

    9. IC: Professional Practice and Clinical Media Documentation

    Details:

    a.  Ethical Use of Social Media in Clinical Practice

    Best practices for using various social media platforms for clinical practice and marketing while adhering to ethical standards.

    b.  Photo & Video Recording/Editing

    Techniques for ophthalmic photography and video recording, including equipment and best practices.

    10. IC: Ocular Surface Disorders and Reconstruction

    Details: 

    a.  Ocular Surface Neoplasia

    Clinical presentations, diagnosis, medical and surgical management of ocular surface tumors

    b.  Surface Reconstruction

    Principles and surgical techniques of ocular surface reconstruction, including amniotic membrane transplantation, limbal stem cell transplantation, buccal mucus membrane grafting and conjunctival grafting in ocular surface disorders to restore surface integrity and visual function.

    c.  Keratoprosthesis & Artificial cornea

    In-depth overview of keratoprosthesis, including indications, patient selection, surgical techniques, and postoperative care.

     11.  IC: Miscellaneous 

    Details: 

    a.  Miscellaneous

     IC on any other topic that is relevant, but not included in the list.
