    Camp N Car · Port Townsend, WA · Full-Time
    $32–$38/hr · 4-Day Work Week · Profit Sharing

    About the Role

Camp N Car builds custom campervan conversions out of Port Townsend, Washington and we're looking for a Van Systems Lead to own the technical heart of our builds. This is a hands-on lead role for someone who genuinely loves 12V electrical systems, off-grid plumbing, and the satisfaction of a clean, well-engineered install.

You'll take full ownership of system installations from planning through final inspection, contribute during the design phase, and share your expertise with the rest of the crew. If you've built out vans, boats, RVs, or tiny homes and you're ready for a role with more responsibility and creative input, this is it.

    Position Details

    Reports To: Shop Manager
    Location: Port Townsend, Washington (on-site)
    Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (32 hrs/week base)
    Pay: $32–$38/hour depending on experience

    What You'll Do

    • Design, install, and troubleshoot advanced 12V electrical systems such as solar, lithium battery banks, inverter/charger setups, BMS, and vehicle integration
    • Build complete plumbing systems (fresh, gray, and hot water) with attention to winterization, weight distribution, and long-term reliability
    • Own system installations end-to-end: planning, execution, QC, and final testing/sign-off
    • Diagnose and resolve integration challenges across electrical, plumbing, and structural systems
    • Provide technical input during the design phase to catch problems early and improve buildability
    • Mentor junior technicians and share knowledge in a way that raises the whole team's skill level
    • Track time, materials, and progress accurately; communicate proactively about delays or supply needs
    • Identify workflow inefficiencies and propose practical improvements to process, tooling, or shop layout
    • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and participate in general shop upkeep

    What We're Looking For

    • 2+ years hands-on experience with off-grid 12V/24V electrical systems, solar, and lithium battery installations
    • Proven experience installing water systems in mobile or confined environments such as vans, boats, RVs, tiny homes, or similar
    • Comfortable working independently: you manage your own timeline, make smart decisions under pressure, and communicate clearly when you need support
    • Familiarity with industry-standard hardware: Victron, EcoFlow, Renogy, or equivalent
    • Ability to read wiring diagrams and build plans and translate them into clean, functional installs
    • Strong communicator who can explain technical decisions clearly to teammates and to customers
    • High craftsmanship standards and a genuine interest in doing things right, while still being efficient

Nice to Have (But Not Required)

    • Experience with Sprinter, Transit, Promaster, or other common conversion platforms
    • Background in boat building, tiny homes, or off-grid cabin systems
    • Familiarity with CAN bus or advanced vehicle integration
    • ABYC or RVIA certification or equivalent formal training

    Compensation & Benefits

    • $32–$38/hour starting pay based on demonstrated experience
    • Quarterly profit sharing tied to hours worked
    • Discounted health, dental, and vision insurance
    • Generous PTO, sick time, and paid holidays
    • Annual paid spa day at Soak on the Sound
    • After-hours access to shop space and tools (following 90-day probationary period)
    • Free and discounted Camp N Car gear and company swag

    Schedule

Base schedule is Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, a 32-hour, 4-day work week. Option to increase to 10-hour days or a 5-day week with manager approval. Flexible scheduling available with advance notice.
