NASRO STAR Training Hosting Information and Requirements
Thank you for your interest in hosting a NASRO training course. The Host serves as a liaison to NASRO, provides the training facility with AV equipment, assists with promoting the training, and handles other local logistical arrangements. NASRO asks that the Host be accessible at all times during the course to assist with any troubleshooting, equipment needs, and other logistical arrangements.
NASRO processes all the registrations and payments, and provides quality Instructor(s). Hosts are encouraged, but not mandated, to provide water and/or sports drinks.
Host Benefits
NASRO Host Credit Procedure
Host agencies will receive 1 registration credit. Host will be provided a coupon code for the registration credit that must be used at the time of registration prior to the start of the course. All additional host agency attendees must register and pay for the course on the NASRO website prior to the start of the course.
HOST RESPONSIBILITIES
Host Packet Submission Requirements
- Any facilities agreements, contracts, certificate of insurance, vendor requirements or additional required documents must be sent/requested at the time the Host Packet is submitted.
- Host Packet must be signed by Head of Agency/Department and the Host.
Training Dates and Location
- Complete the Host Packet and obtain NASRO approval a minimum of six weeks prior to the proposed training dates. Approval may take two or more weeks to obtain.
- Once the course is approved and open for registration, DO NOT change the training location.
Host Site Requirements
1. Classroom Facilities
Requirements:
- Seating with tables for up to 25 students
- Classroom should be in close proximity to the training area
Audio / Visual Support
- LCD projector or large monitor
- Projection screen
- Speakers compatible with laptop audio
- HDMI connection access
- Extension cords and power strips
- AV table or cart for equipment
- IT support available in case of technical issues
2. Training Structures (Movement / Force-on-Force Areas)
The host site must provide structures suitable for movement drills, room clearing, and force-on-force scenarios.
Preferred Structures
- Commercial, office building, school
- Wing of a school that could be a corridor off to general public
Minimum Requirements
- Building with multiple rooms and hallways
- Corner-fed and/or center-fed rooms
- Multiple floors preferred
- Stairs (optional but highly beneficial)
Training Area Requirements
- Structure must be closed to the general public during training
- Building should be clearly marked “Police Training”
- Structure must support airsoft and Simunitions® training in designated areas
3. Movement Areas
The venue should support realistic movement and scenario development.
Required:
- Ability to move between buildings or structures
- Open-air movement areas (e.g., building to parking lot transitions)
- Ideally out of view from the general public
Vehicles
Two (2) police vehicles available for training scenarios
Portable Targets
- Four portable target stands with dozen paper range targets
- Staples, spray glue or clips to hang the targets
4. Force-on-Force Support
To support simulation training:
- 3–4 role players required for Day 3 scenarios
- Areas approved for Simunitions® or airsoft use
- Cleaning supplies available:
o Paper towels
o Trash bags
o Broom
o Dustpan
o Access to warm, soapy water
5. Safety & Medical
- Trauma bag / medical kit available each day of training
- Medical plan established at start of training (instructors will assist)
- Optional armed officer (“Guardian Angel”) for external security
6. On-Site Host Coordination
The host agency must provide:
- Daily Point of Contact (POC) available during training
- Radio communication for coordination
- Access to building keys or access cards for all designated training areas
