  • Format: (000) 000-0000.
  • Criteria for NNDC Membership

These criteria are subject to modification and additional factors may be considered by the NNDC Board of Directors.
  • Criterion 1:  Expertise in at least one of the following areas: clinical delivery, research, education

Rationale: Member institutions are required to have expertise in the field of depressive and bipolar disorders: a comprehensive clinical delivery system, a substantial funding base in grants and research in depression, bipolar disorders, and related disorders, or evidence-based education within a medical setting. (Please include certifications, awards, grants or other evidence of expertise). Regional recognition of excellence in the field of mood disorders is also expected. While coverage in depression, bipolar and related mood disorders is required, greater emphasis in one or more of these areas, i.e. sub-specialization, is encouraged. All members do not need to be identical.

  • Criterion 2:  Interdisciplinary approach to treatment and/or research.

Rationale:  Member institutions are expected to involve diverse departments in their centers in keeping with the interdisciplinary principle of the network.  Partnerships with appropriate departments or schools/agencies outside their institution that enhance the interdisciplinary approach are encouraged (e.g., family medicine, other primary care, psychology, public health, nursing, pharmacy, social work, etc.) to “make the whole greater than the sum of its parts.”  Clinical translation into underserved populations, including military, is expected and work with satellite clinics are encouraged.

  • Criterion 3: Community outreach, education, and training

Rationale: Members are required to have substantial community outreach and education programs or plans to implement such programs in the near future. Member institutions are also required to show evidence of working with local community and advocacy groups (e.g., NAMI, DBSA).

  • Criterion 4:  Network collaborations

Rationale: It is the philosophy of the NNDC that its institutional members will collaborate in research and clinical delivery; have common collaborative efforts in outreach and education; and engage external stakeholders including advocacy groups and others in informing public policy. Member institutions are required to engage in substantial collaborations within the network.  Some examples of these collaborations include participation in common network research protocols developed by the NNDC; contributing content and review efforts for NNDC publications; collecting standardized assessment data and monitoring outcomes; collaborating with other NNDC member institutions in scientific work, including research, development of guidelines, protocols and standards etc.; participating in multi-institution data analyses supported by the NNDC; and contributing to NNDC informatics infrastructures.

  • Criterion 5: In-kind contributions

Rationale: Each member institution shall make substantial “in-kind” contributions to the network in addition to their annual monetary dues. These contributions shall be in the form of supporting and encouraging their members to participate in NNDC efforts and sub-entities like committees, task groups, panels etc.; sending representatives to NNDC meetings and events; aiding in the network’s educational, research, and public policy efforts; and promote the NNDC and your center’s membership in the NNDC.
