  • The Virginia Association for Environmental Education (VAEE), a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization, is looking for an enthusiastic part-time Certification Program Coordinator who is passionate about environmental education in Virginia and will oversee the Environmental Education Certification Program and the Guidelines for Excellence Program. VAEE is a professional network that empowers and uplifts educators with the tools they need to support equitable outdoor access, environmental literacy, and environmental justice. We do this through our annual conference, outreach and engagement, our certification program, networking, multi sector collaboration, and by supporting school programs and curricula. We believe in an environmentally literate, resilient, and equitable Virginia.

    The Certification Program Coordinator will oversee the Environmental Education Certification Program and the Guidelines for Excellence Program. The Certification Program Coordinator will report to the Executive Director.

    This position is remote. The remote location must be within Virginia. This position requires occasional statewide travel to facilitate workshops, and statewide travel once or twice a year including VAEE's Annual Conference and potentially an in-person board retreat. Mileage will be reimbursed at the federal rate; travel time is compensable. Overnight travel requires prior approval.

    Candidates in this role would be expected to pursue their certification with support from the organization.

  • Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; a Master’s degree in Education or a related field preferred.
    • Familiarity with the Virginia’s Environmental Education Certification Program (or equivalent program).
    • Minimum 3 years of experience teaching adult learners.
    • Experience with course design in Canvas (or another online learning management system).
    • Experience using Google Drive as well as other products including, but not limited to, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Meet. 
    • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines, accomplish tasks, and facilitate program requirements. 
  • Responsibilities

  • Virginia's Environmental Education Certification Program (VEECP) Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates with the Certification Advisory Board (CAB) leadership to schedule meetings, maintain Certification Program records, and track CAB action items.
    • Guides certification candidates through the program: reviewing submissions to Canvas, checking in about progress, and responding to questions.
    • Maintains and updates VEECP operations manual and reviews and updates program criteria and coursework in Canvas.
    • Executes evaluation plan for the Certification Program.
    • Develops VEECP annual budget.
    • Pursues opportunities to offer VEECP registrants professional learning opportunities statewide as they align with the VEECP criteria.
    • Coordinates virtual, in-person, and hybrid workshops and trains and recruits facilitators for VEECP and the Guidelines Trainers’ Bureau.
    • Assists with grant writing for VEECP program and Guidelines for Excellence and submits all grant reports to the Executive Director for review prior to official submission.
    • Creates marketing materials for the VEECP, including newsletter content and social media posts.

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Leads the Virginia Guidelines Trainers' Bureau and collaborates closely with NAAEE’s Guidelines Trainers' Bureau to coordinate Guidelines for Excellence offerings.
    • Attends and supports key VAEE events such as the Annual Conference and board retreats.
    • Attends and reports out at all Full Board meetings, held virtually once per month.
    • Attends regularly scheduled staff meetings.
    • Other tasks as agreed upon (as appropriate to the role).
  • Compensation

  • This is a part-time position that averages 20 hours a week, but please note that hours may fluctuate. Occasional weeks with more than 29 hours may be agreed upon ahead of time.

    • Pay rate is $22-$26 per hour, commensurate with experience.
      • If you are interested in pursuing qualifications to facilitate or you are already qualified to facilitate a workshop, you will be compensated at the facilitator rate of $30/hour.
        • Hours spent facilitating a workshop do not count towards the 20 hours per week.
    • Paid professional development and associated travel expenses are covered by VAEE as funds are available.

    This position does not include health insurance or retirement benefits.
