Hulu, Don’t Walk Away From Buffy: New Sunnydale!

Fans around the world were incredibly excited to hear that a new chapter in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer universe was being developed for Hulu. Now Hulu has chosen not to move forward with the series, and fans everywhere are deeply disappointed. What makes this decision especially difficult to understand is the timing. Chloé Zhao is currently one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the world, receiving major awards recognition for her film Hamnet and entering the Academy Awards conversation once again. At this moment, Zhao’s creative vision and prestige are at an extraordinary peak. Choosing not to move forward with a beloved global franchise while a filmmaker of her stature is attached and in such high demand feels like a missed opportunity not only for fans, but for Hulu as well. Buffy the Vampire Slayer is more than nostalgia. It is one of the most influential television series ever made, with a passionate fan base that has remained loyal for nearly 30 years. This revival represented the rare chance to continue that legacy with the original star and one of the most acclaimed directors of our time. We respectfully ask Hulu to reconsider its decision and reopen conversations with the creative team behind Buffy: New Sunnydale. The audience is still here. The story still matters. Please reconsider and move forward with Buffy: New Sunnydale.
