  • HELP US PLANT 30 NATIVE TREES IN CHARLESTOWN PARKS!

The City of Charlestown received a $5,000 "Small Town, Big Trees" grant through DNR, and we have set a community planting day for Thursday, April 2 starting at 8:30 a.m. at the Family Activities Park, 1000 Park Street.

Jake Shapley, the Property Manager at Charlestown State Park, will oversee the planting along with Brian Smith, Communications Director at the City of Charlestown.

Jake will open the day with a presentation at 8:30 on how we are going to plant trees, proper mulching, tree care, watering, and why planting native trees is important.

We will plant trees in the following parks:

    • Family Activities Park, 1000 Park Street
    • Charlestown Little League Park, 152 Steve Hamilton Way
    • Knoebel Park, corner of Market/Church Streets
    • Greenway Park, 400 Market Street
    • City Square, Main/Main Cross Streets

We are also thankful to Holmes Ace Hardware for donating mulch, tree watering bags, t-post, and tree wraps for the project! This is a matching grant, so volunteer hours will go toward meeting that matching goal.

Please bring your own gloves. The trees are large ball and burlap along with container. The City of Charlestown and Charlestown State Park will be donating the use of an auger, rakes, shovels, and post drivers.

    Thank you!
