  • Current NC Farm Bureau Members are eligible to apply for reimbursement up to $250 to retrofit their farm tractor or other production agriculture equipment with a sun canopy of their choice to protect from sun exposure

  • How does the process work? You must follow these steps:

    1) Farmer applies using this application online

    2) NC Farm Bureau reviews application and verifies information

    3) NC Farm Bureau sends email response back to farmer notifying them if they are  accepted into the program with a reimbursement application link. If no response in two weeks, please contact luke.beam@ncfb.org to see if there is an error in the process.

    4) Farmer buys canopy and installs correctly

    5) Farmer submits pictures of canopy and receipt into reimbursement form

    6) NC Farm Bureau verifies reimbursement information and notifies farmer

    7) Farmer receives a check in the mail

  • FAQs

    Why do I need a canopy on my tractor?

    • Due to prolonged sun exposure, farmers and farm workers have a higher risk for heat related illness, skin cancer, eye damage, and premature aging. Canopies on open cab tractors can reduce exposure to the sun's damaging rays and reduce the risk of heat-related illness.

    Can I pick out my own canopy?

    • Yes, you can select your own canopy style, color, and brand from the manufacturer of your choice. 

    Can I install the canopy?

    • Yes, you can install your own canopy by following the manufacturer's instructions

    Is it a flat rate reimbursement?

    • NCFB will share up to $250 of the cost of a canopy and any needed hardware. If you find a canopy for less than $250, you will be reimbursed based on actual expenses after providing receipts. If your canopy is more than $250, you will receive a $250 reimbursement once you submit pictures and receipts to NCFB. 

    I have several tractors that need canopies, can I apply for multiple grants?

    • Grants are awarded once per membership per year. Members who are approved for a canopy, will not be eligible for another canopy cost share until the next calendar year. 

  • Eligibility

    • The applicant must be an NC Farm Bureau member in good standing and must own the tractor and/or production agriculture equipment. 
    • Canopy must be purchased new and installed pursuant to this program
    • Tractor/equipment must be used for production agriculture

  • Members whose applications are approved will receive a certification form. They then have 90 days to select, order, and install the canopy and any necessary hardware, and return the completed certification form with receipts and a picture of the installed canopy attached.

  • NC Farm Bureau is committed to helping its members minimize farm hazards through education and proactive programs. The Tractor Canopy Cost Share Program assists members in fitting an open cab tractor with the sun shade of their choice to reduce sun exposure. Long-term overexposure to the sun's UV rays increases the risk for skin cancer, premature aging, and eye damage.
