In 1876, Archibald Willard's "Spirit of '76" captured something eternal: three generations marching through battle smoke, battered but unbroken, playing on. The old man with his fife still fierce, the boy drumming through the noise, the flag still high. That same defiant, joyful, stubborn American heartbeat — resilience wrapped in red, white, and blue — is what we're summoning again.
We're seeking artwork that channels "The Spirit of '76" in 2026. Interpret it broadly and fearlessly:
- Revolutionary fire and the will to keep going
- Multi-generational defiance and legacy
- Patriotism re-examined, reclaimed, critiqued, or celebrated
- Music as resistance (fifes, drums, protest songs, coded anthems)
- Marching forward when everything hurts
- Icons of Americana twisted, honored, subverted, or reborn
All media welcome: painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, fiber, mixed media, digital, installation, video/sound, performance documentation — anything that can be exhibited.
