  • City of Aurora Parade Rules - updated in 2026

    The City of Aurora reserves the right to remove or refuse any parade entry. Failure to follow these rules can affect eligibility for future parades. 

    Candy & Giveaways 

    • No throwing or tossing items from vehicles. Candy or giveaways must be handed out by walking participants. 
    • No squirt guns, water balloons, or water-based items. 
    • Please avoid chocolate or other heat-sensitive items. 

    Vehicles & Drivers 

    • Riders in truck beds or trailers must remain seated at all times and may not stand, sit on edges, or dangle any part of their body over a moving float. 
    • Drivers must be at least 18 years old, have a valid driver’s license, and all motorized vehicles must have liability insurance. 
    • Operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited. 
    • The use of mobile phones or other handheld devices while driving in the parade is not permitted. 
    • Entries must keep pace with the parade and may not stop, except approved performing groups. 

    Animals 

    • Animals must be healthy, well-behaved in crowds, and tolerant of loud noise. 
    • Handlers must clean up and remove animal waste along the route and staging area. 

    Performances 

    • Performing groups may stop for up to one minute in front of the judges’ booth. 
    • Extended stops may affect eligibility for future parades. 
  • City of Aurora Waiver and Liability

    I/We agree to assume any and all liability and hold the City of Aurora and/or any agent(s) thereof harmless against any liability which may arise due to my participation.


    I/We further acknowledge that the City of Aurora, and any agent thereof, assume no responsibility for any damages or injuries which may occur in our participation of this event.


    I/We agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless the City of Aurora and/or any agent thereof, from any claim, demand, suit, loss, cost of expense, or any damage which may be asserted, claimed or recovered against or from the City of Aurora or its agents by reason of any damage to property, personal injury or bodily injury, including death, sustained by any person whomsoever and which damage, injury, or death arises out of or is incident to or in any way connected with this participation and regardless of whether such claim, demand, damage, loss, cost or expense is caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the City of Aurora or by third parties, or by the agents, servants, employees or factors of any of them.


    I/We agree to waive and release any and all rights and claims for damages I may have against the City of Aurora and the Parks and Recreation Department, its representatives, successors and assigns for any and all injuries suffered by myself by participating which includes possible exposure to, and illness from, infectious diseases including but not limited to MRSA, influenza, and COVID-19. While particular rules and personal discipline may reduce this risk, the risk of serious illness and death does exist. I knowingly and freely assume all such risks, both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of the City of Aurora and the Parks and Recreation Department or others, and assume full responsibility for my participation. I warrant that I have the right to authorize the foregoing uses and do hereby agree to hold the City of Aurora and the Parks and Recreation Department harmless of and from any and all liability of whatever nature which may arise out of or result from such uses. I, for myself and on behalf of my heirs, assigns, personal representatives and next of kin, hereby release and hold harmless and indemnify the City of Aurora Parks and Recreation Department their officers, officials, agents, and/or employees, other participants, sponsoring agencies, sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners and lessors of premises used to conduct the event with respect to any and all illness from infectious disease, disability, death, or loss or damage to person or property, to the fullest extent permitted by law.


    I/We further confirm possession of sufficient casualty insurance covering injury, death or damage to persons or property caused by me or any of my volunteers or employees.


    I/We further agree to abide by all ordinances, laws and regulations of the City of Aurora and the State of Ohio.
