  • I wish to volunteer/participate for the Koreatown Youth and Community Center. I understand the nature of the activities I will be performing in my capacity as a volunteer/participant. I understand that volunteering/participating may require periods of (a) physical (b) contact with KYCC staff, community members and other participants/volunteers, (c) other potential risk of injury and will require the exercise of reasonable care to avoid injury. I am voluntarily participating in this activity with knowledge of the hazards and potential dangers involved, and agree to accept any and all risks of personal injury and property damage. I acknowledge the contagious nature of COVID-19 and voluntarily assume the risk that I may be exposed to or infected by COVID-19 by participating in this program and that such exposure or infection may result in personal injury, illness, permanent disability, and death. As consideration for participating/volunteering for Koreatown Youth and Community Center, I hereby agree that I, and my assignees, heirs, guardians, and legal representatives, will not make a claim against or sue Koreatown Youth and Community Center or its employees, agents or contractors for injury or damage resulting from the negligence, whether active or passive, or other acts, however caused, by any of its officers, employees, agents, or contractors of Koreatown Youth and Community Center as a result of my participating/volunteering. I authorize Koreatown Youth and Community Center to seek emergency medical treatment on my behalf in case of injury, accident or illness to me arising from my involvement as a participant/volunteer. I understand that I will be responsible for medical costs incurred by such accident, illness or injury. I understand that the materials and tools provided by Koreatown Youth and Community Center are and remain the property of Koreatown Youth and Community Center, and I agree to return these tools and any remaining materials to Koreatown Youth and Community Center at the end of my participant/volunteer service.   • I understand that the program my child is applying for requires them to spend time outside of school working on community projects during the evenings and weekends. I do release and hold harmless KYCC, Board of Directors, and employees for any and all loss, damage, and/or injuries related to my son/daughter’s participation in the program’s meetings, community events, and field trips.

  • Workshop Selection

    Please review the workshops below and select which ones you would like to participate in. Please select one workshop for each timeslot. Workshop registration is based on room capacity; if the workshop you are interested in is listed as full, please select one that is open.
  • Workshop Timeslot #1

    1) "Prevention Lab: What youth should know about substance use" with the Youth Drug Abuse Prevention Program (YDAPP) - This workshop will uncover the real risks of alcohol, cannabis, methamphetamine, and prescription drug misuse. Through teamwork and critical thinking, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the risks and harms associated with substance use by participating in a challenge at the end of the workshop.

    2) "Tune Into Rhythm" with Rhythm and Truth - Join us for an interactive music-making experience, and learn how we can use the power of music and rhythm to foster community, release stress, and build resilience. 

    3) "The Importance of Green Spaces and Gardening" with the Koreatown, Pico Union, and Westlake Rooted (KPWR) Youth Project - Workshop will introduce access to green spaces, touch on food insecurity and an interactive portion of how to grow your own herbs and vegetables at home.

    4) "Handling Peer Pressure: Tools for Teens" with KYCC Recovery Services - This workshop helps teens recognize how peer pressure shows up in their daily lives—from friends, social media, and school—and how it can impact their choices. Teens will learn how to say no, set boundaries, and stay true to themselves without feeling left out.

     

    Workshop Timeslot #2

    1) "Restorative Justice Circles" with the Bridge Program - Join us for a youth-led workshop facilitated by Bridge Program Leaders, featuring Restorative Justice Circles designed to encourage meaningful reflection on identity and community trauma, build connection, and support positive mental health.

    2) "96-Story" with Koreatown Storytelling Program (KSP) - How have you and/or your family and friends been affected by the ICE raids. Share your story anonymously with Koreatown Storytelling Program.

    3) "Money Smart: Designing Dreams" with Hanmi Bank - Facilitated by financial professionals from Hanmi Bank, this workshop will help you reflect on your personal values and how they inform your financial decisions.

    4) "Let's Be Blunt: How the built environment influences substance use in your community" with Community Collaboration Program (CCP) - Participants will engage in activities and open dialogue about the impact of smoke shops and the sale of intoxicating cannabis products near schools and neighborhoods.
